2000 Cavalier troubles

I went to detail my GFs 2000 cavalier yesterday and I knew it was going to be bad but I didnt realize how bad. After claying most of the car, I broke out MY most aggressive combo. PC at speed 5 with 5.5 in. low profile Orange LC pads and Optimum compound. 2-3 passes on every panel with lots of pressure on the PC moving about 1" per second rid about 65% of the light swirls, but all of the deeper swirls and scratches remained. I was very suprised. The only thing I could think of was the car having really hard clear. Anyone have any experience with cavalier clear coat? Im going to be redoing the process in the summer and would like some input on what to use. I'm thinking either SSR3 or Optimum hyper compound with a yellow LC cutting pad. Which one will better suit my needs(most abrasive)?

The paint is like a rock. My son had a 1997 Cadaver and it took getting very aggressive (old OHC, Cyclo and yellow cutting pads) to make any headway.

I actually was searching and came upon one of your posts saying something in reference to that. Thanks for clearing the hardness issue up for me though. I forgot to add that I used the new formula of OC.

Scary because my girlfriend also has a Cavalier but its silver and before I met her she never really washed so its pretty swirl free actually. But its good to know that it will be hard to get the swirls out.

My wife drives a 2001 Cav, and I will have to agree, the clear is really hard. Before I met my wife she used to wash with the stiff foaming brush at the carwash! I put some hard work into that car with the PC. I wish I would have had a rotary.

I used SSR2.5 on most of the car with 5.5 LC pad speed 6 (required multiple passes)

I busted out the SSR3 for some sections of the roof (she liked to sit things up there all the time!)

I followed it up with SSR1

I had trouble getting getting some areas to finish down properly with the Poorboy's line, Switched over to the optimum to finish out some areas.

This was one of the few cars I had to actually walk away from and come back to later, it was that annoying.
