This was a FUN one from a real driving enthusiast who wanted the best for his pride and joy, his 2000 BMW 540i sitting on proper BBS wheels (6 speed
).
You may (or may not) notice very subtle upgrades and changes to the original North American version, a lot of which are under the hood. The vehicle was in amazing condition for a 16 year old car, but was lacking that extra "pop" in the paint.
While the metallic paint did a great job of concealing the swirls and water spots we would expect to find on a car with over 100k miles, with close inspection I started to find them.
Before starting, I decided to use a present I recevied from my reddit Secret Santa. The water here is hard, so I`ll gladly take any help to minimize water spotting. Thank you pulseOXE.
I started with the wheels and tires. The SpeedMaster Wheel Brush and Wheel Woolie combo was all I needed for getting the barrels clean. Optimum Power Clean and CarPro Iron X were used for the wheels and tires.
It was cool to see such a big color difference between a clean and dirty wheel. The classic Diamond Silver BBS wheel color looks amazing on this car.
Once the wheel was cleaned, I came back with BLACKFIRE Poly Clay (aggressive) to remove the light overspray/tar I noticed.
ONR was used as lubricant.
Next was the first of an ultimate two foam baths.
After a foam bath and Iron X session, I started claying with a Nanoskin Wash Mitt on the glass. I think this is the easiest way to end up with spotless glass. This glass needed a polishing session too to remove all of the water spots.
There was existing wax on the paint, but the Nanoskin Mitt did a great job of stropping everything off.
This isn`t the first car I`ve detailed here, and as I moved around the car washing section after section I noticed that I wasn`t running into water spotting like I normally do. My secret santa gift was doing a GREAT job. It does lower your water pressure slightly, but well worth the trade in my opinion. TWO big thumbs up for this water filter.
After washing the car for the second time, I realized I had skipped cleaning the engine bay. I think my excitement over those BBS wheels got the best of me
It wasn`t bad at all, but needed a light cleaning.
