2000 Black Vette ... Dang that paint is hard!!!

Wanted to share some photos/process, and also get some feedback and advice.



Worked on a black Vette this weekend ... dang that paint is hard.



This 2000 Vette had some deep water etching and normal swirls.



Here is my process:

Wash

Edge yellow wool / Presta UCCL / 1500 on horizontal surfaces due to water etching

Edge green wool / Presa UCCL / 1500 all surfaces

Edge blue foam / FPII / 1200

Nattys Blue



Wheels got Mothers PowerBall and Poorboys Pro Polish

Tire: Wolfgand Gel



The FPII seemed to gum up a little and left pockets of residue on the panels in some places. It was very hot/humid this weekend in SC. Does anybody else notice this with FPII, and if so, can it be helped?



Most of the swirls and etching were removed, but some of the deeper ones remained even after 3 passes with the wool. Any suggestions with the process or products?

Looks great man. I'm taking a break from doing my fathers SLK320, and it too is black. YOur results look great man. Mine is looking good, but i'm still very much a novice.
 
Looks very deep and wet to me! :goodjob



I hear ya on the rock hard Corvette paint. I flinch whenever someone calls me out to detail a Corvette.
 
Thanks Scott .... yeah I knew from reading other posts the paint was gonna be hard, but after 3 passes with wool/rotary it still wasn't defect free. I guess the water etching was deeper than I thought and/or the paint was harder than I thought.
 
It looks great. Depending on how long the water sat it is probably too deep to fully remove. I'm sure it is hardly noticable now. You did a great job! :2thumbs:

Like most Autopians, I think I'm harder on myself than the average person. Up close some of the deeper water etching was still visible in certain lighting, but I decided they were too deep to go after. It looked pretty good, just not flawless.
 
At times even with the black wool and P1500, all of the deep water etching will not come out. I've been looking for a hammered black vette to try black wool and strada 1000 on. Also try 106ff with some RMG (25%) mixed as a final polish on a black vette.



The black vette came out great!
