2 Problems I was Happy I Had the Solution for

Over the weekend I encountered various trouble spots while doing some work and I was stoked to reach for the right products to take care of them.

1. Excessive Hinge Grease on a Yukon Denali. I don't know what they think they're protecting these hinges from with all the grease, but I can assure you it attracts more dirt than it protects. Not only that but it was slathered all over the door jams, door hinges, engine hinge/latch, and liftgate hinges. Solution: Meguiars Body Solvent. With a couple of sprays and some agitation from a Swissvax brush...no more grease and a nice "coconut" smell left behind.

2. Cloister "whip-brush" swirls on a 750Li. I've encountered these swirls before on this particular car and I've always battled with the best way to remove them from the ultra-soft Barbera red, metallic paint. At times the battle was as epic as Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant (and given the weight I've gained this past year...I've switched roles). But This weekend I took the power back. Solution: Menzerna Power Finish, Flex 3401, and Green Polishing Pad. Swirls completely gone.

Just thought I'd share. Was a good weekend for working and a good weekend for work. It's finally nice staring down a calendar booked of solid details two months in advance.

I'm also going to throw in a prop to Wet Diamond and Supernatural...my LSP's of choice this weekend (in that order- One layer of each).

You might want to consider reapplying a Lubricant after cleaning the hinges/locks with solvent? I sure a solvent would dry them out and create problems if left bare. They need some kind of lubrication.

I do. I use PHIL WOOD GREASE at JensonUSA.com

Being a former bicycle racer and race mechanic, I gained a liking for Phil's grease. It's clean and h2o proof. It can also be precisely applied. Thanks for the heads up though.

I would love to see how well a solvent did on grease. Sounds amazing!! I can't beleive I never thought of that. It sure is nice to have these forums. I learn something new everyday. Here all this time I would use degreaser. Got any photo's of this work?

I didn't take any pictures on this detail. I had to bang it out in about 8 hours and I just made it sans photos. I wouldn't normally have reached for it either, but I had run out of my regular degreaser and I didn't have anything else. I figured since it is clearcoat safe and strong it would do the trick and it did. I have another doozy coming in tomorrow for (mainly) interior work. I'll check the hinges and if they warrant it, I'll do it again with some pics. It literally broke it down like butter. BY the way, have you ever tried Spraway D3 Degreaser? I am thinkning of buying a case of it but can't find any reviews or comments about it. Do you or have you ever used it?

Something new I'll be trying out tomrrow is the Auto-Vaccine as step one of an interior involving mold removal....I'll let you know how that goes.

Yeah, the spring bloom (or boom) is typical for my regular clients as they feel the sun getting warmer and then there are the new ones. Only being to work Saturday, Sunday, and Holidays (until June) for bigger jobs books me up quick (but I've managed to work in some mid-weekers too). I wish they were as nice as the ones you've been doing lately, but a lot of Daily Drivers getting the winter scar removal treatment. I'll write-em up as I can.

Good hearin' from you again B-Man.
