1Z Detail Spray Review

1Z Detail-Spray 'Lackfinish'

I was given the opportunity to do a review on 1Z Detail-Spray 'Lackfinish'.

Back of the Bottle:

Detail Spray gently cleans and protects the paintwork between regualr washings with a dust repellant gloss-enhancing wax like finish. Effortlessly dissolves and removes fresh environmental contaminents such as dust, soot, fingerprints, bird droppings, tree sap an water spots leaving a long lasting, tangible gloss finish. Great for use on all paint work finishes including clear coat. Also for use on exterior chrome, metal and plastic surfaces.

The instructions were basic and well laid out, and usual for any type of QD. Shake well before using, use on a cool surface out of direct sunlight. Do not use in areas that are heavily soiled.

The bottle: Well made comfortable in your hand, it does not feel flimsy, and the sprayer shoots out a fine mist, what you want for this type of product.

Odor: I read the back of the bottle and it said that it contained perfume and colorant addatives. I could not place a word on the smell at first as its not strong, only if you got some on a MFT and held it to your nose. My nine year old was kind enough to smell it for me and she said it smelled like bug spray, which it does.

Color: Its a clear liquid.

Performance: Here is where we get into what can this do. The subject is my 2005 Nissan Murano, Dark Blue. This past weekend it was washed, clayed, Pro-polished, PB Blackhole Glaze and followed up with Z2. Since then we have had some showers and a heavy dose of pollen. I also parked under a tree at work which apparently makes sap by the gallon, covering my car with tiny white specs of sap. The first pic you see here is the rear tailgate covered in light dust, sap particles and pollen.

I lightly misted the area in question and using the new MFT provided with the spray I wiped away the area and was left with this.

The spray and towel made quick work of the dust and pollen leaving a clear smooth finish. The towel is exceptional for QD and is incredibly soft leaving no swirl marks and or scratches. (I will review the towel next)

I then washed the car with Poorboys California Gold car wash...dried with waffle weave towels and used the 1Z along with the MFT to see what would be left. Here are a couple pics of the hood and the passenger side.

Since it mentioned it was good on chrome as well I tried it on the door handles, up first a before, again the same light pollen, dust and water spots.

After: It did quick work on the door handle removing all water spots and leaving a nice clean finish.

The bottle also mentioned it worked on plastic. So I tried it on the unwashed side of the car on the glossy black plastic pillars that go between the driver and the rear driver side passenger windows.

Before: The same as the rest of the car, dusty, pollen, water spotting.

After: Once again the product made quick work of the grime leaving a shiney smooth surface free of any contaminents. It actually made it shiney enough to realize they could use a polishing themselves.

Final Thoughts:

Detail-Spray 'Lackfinish' by 1Z while it does have an awkward name it is in fact a very good product. I found it to work with little to no effort on my part, it cleaned light dusting, pollen, and water spots with ease and it left a very smooth deep reflective surface. I will continue to use it during the course of the week and update its progress, to see how long it can maintain the cars current appearence.

I want to thank Max and all the great people at Autogeek for allowing me to get a chance to review this product. Thanks for reading.

Interesting.
Thanks for the review.

Just a little off- topic, but the tailgate was dirty enough that I would have been hesitant to use Poorboy's Spray & Wipe on it, let alone a QD product.
It evidently did the job, though.

Charles,

I would have normally washed the car first especially being this time of year, but it could have easily worked with S&W.

But I wanted in the review to put the product to the test and see if it could a heavier dusted area...since it said not to. But it did a nice job, again it was a light dust mainly pollen and water spots. It looks worst then it was in the pic.

But you are right normally you would not use a QD for this...just putting it through its paces.

My thought was that it was a little more dust/dirt accumulation than I would tackle with a QD.
It looks like the "Lackfinish" certainly stood up to the challenge.

Very good review! I'm with CW, I don't know that I would have tackled that dirt with a QD but it sure looks like it did a good job.

Thanks for the detailed review.

Stephan, is that towel the new Cobra? How does it compare to the DMT's?

Its very similar, its a very plush towel, extremely soft and well made. Nice satin edges, one tag, but it was stuck on so easy to remove...perfect for QD, polish and lsp. You really notice the difference when using a towel like this compared to a MFT you get at a local store.
