1st Wash of the Year: Review my regimen

Hi all,

The citizens of Raleigh have just had our water restrictions lifted due to drought conditions for the last year. Due to this, I've had to take my car to a no touch car wash. The door jams and engine bay are really showing it. Here is my plan of attack on Saturday, based on products I have:

1)Wash car with Poorboys SSS CW

2)Clay car

3)Wash car with Poorboys SSS CW (to remove the excess clay)

4)Degrease engine and engine bay (simple green)

5)Degrease/Scrub wheels, tires and fender skirt I do these inside and out

6)Dress engine (CD2 or Poorboys Bold and Bright)

7)Polish (Poorboys SSR 2.0) I don't have a lot of swirls/webbing since the last polish.

8)Mequiars Cleaner

9)Sealant (Poorboys EX Sealant)

10)Dress tires (Poorboys Bold and Bright) and trim (Poorboys Trim Restore)

*Note: Polish/Cleaner applied with Porter Cable Orbital.

Let me know your thoughts/efficencies. Other products I have on hand are:

AIO

Poorboys SSR 2.5

Mequiars Polish and Wax (This is from the 1, 2, 3 collection with a separate bottle for cleaner, polish and wax).

Maybe...but at $1000 per fine I didn't want to risk it.

Not being familier with your areas restrictions, how do they work? If you washed in your garage (if you have one) how would they know? I can see them driving around and looking for wet driveways, but they can't pull over clean cars and ask for car wash receipts, or can they?

Personally, I attack vehicles in different steps than you do. This is what I would do with your process:

1)Degrease engine and engine bay (simple green)

2)Degrease/Scrub wheels, tires and fender skirt I do these inside and out

3)Dress engine (CD2 or Poorboys Bold and Bright)

4)Wash car with Poorboys SSS CW

5)Clay car

6)Rinse car

7)Polish (Poorboys SSR 2.0) I don't have a lot of swirls/webbing since the last polish.

8)Sealant (Poorboys EX Sealant)

9)Dress tires (Poorboys Bold and Bright) and trim (Poorboys Trim Restore)

They relaxed water restrictions in Raleigh this last week so why do you say there is a fine.

Yes, they also released water restrictions in my area too. I live in Hickory so you should be fine washing your car. I also washed my car during the water restrictions!

yup, april 1st, stage IV -> stage III here in durham area :)

although, I have no idea how i'm supposed to demonstrate that I'm using less than 30 gallons of water....

or you could have a catch for the water. the one like you drive on.then have a tank for the water

Yes, this is what the post is all about.

A few posts down from my original, Cactus1 asked if you could use ONR (assumingly during those restrictions) to which I answered in your quote.

Essentially, they enforce it with patrols and reports from citizens. I believe they have to witness the act. There was an article in the paper a few months back where someone was leaving there sprinklers on in the morning. Well, the house was on a busy intersection and the front page picture was, you guessed it, the persons house w/ticket being placed on door and sprinkler running in the foreground.

We're currently at Stage 1:

Automatic/non-automatic irrigation systems

ODD = Tuesday

EVEN=Wednesday

12 a.m. (midnight) – 10 a.m.

Hose End Sprinklers

ODD = Tuesday

EVEN=Wednesday

6 a.m.-10 a.m. and 6 p.m.-10 p.m.

Hand held hose

ODD = Tue./Sat

EVEN = Wed./Sun.

6 a.m.-10 a.m. and 6 p.m.-10 p.m.

Vehicle Washing, Pressure Washing (non-commercial use)

Saturday and Sunday (Commercial use is permitted all days)

Drip irrigation

Not restricted

Stage Two carries the following restrictions:
  • require that leaks be repaired within 24 hours of notice from the city

  • ban use of water-cooled air conditioners that do not recycle water

  • order businesses to review their water usage and implement conservation plans appropriate for their industries

  • require that innkeepers ask guests to use their towels and linens more than once before laundering

  • prohibit restaurants from serving water, except by request

  • ban all non-essential use of water for commercial or public use

First violation of the Stage 2 ordinance carries a fine of $1,000. Any recurrence of the violation may result in interruption of water service. There will be a two-week grace period during which the fine will be $250.

If you used ONR and purchased water (2 jugs of distilled), this is not using the city water supply so you would not be subject to a fine.
