1999 Grand Cherokee -Not 56K friendly :)

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee – 106K on the clock.

This SUV was filthy inside and out. The paint was filled with swirls, RIDS, stains, etching –a little bit of everything on this one. The owner runs the SUV through a tunnel wash once a month, and that’s about all of the care this SUV gets.

Here are a few before shots:

I started the clean up on Friday evening. Total time invested = 8.5 hours.

Wash:
TOL bubble bath on the paint & Z18 clay

Wells: Mira-Clean APC 50/50. I let it dwell for 5 min, and hit it hard with various brushes. This knocked reduced about 70% of the crud. Next, I applied Engine Degreaser (2 cans) and cleaned out the wells with an APC mix & old MF towels. The wells were dressed with NL. A few areas need painted because the undercoating is history.

Tires: TOL Wheel Cleaner x 2 on the tires

Wheels & exhaust: Trans-Mate Wheel Brightener x 2

Rocker panels: APC mix & a bug scrubber block

Jams: 1 can of Mira-Clean Heavy Degreaser & MF wipe down. The jams were protected with Z6/Z8.

My driveway is an absolute mess after the ‘wash’.

Interior:
APC clean on spots & a waterless carpet cleaner –shop vac to clean up.

Interior dash, seats, trim: Mira-Clean APC cut 10:1 wipe down.

Stoners window cleaner (but they are still hazed in areas???)

Dressing: Z16/Z10 cut 1 part Z10 to 4 parts Z16.

Unfortunately most of the interior shots turned out blurry. Only 1 shot survived L

Exterior Polish & Trim:
FPII/PG (I laid a bead of FPII on the paint and a few dime size blobs of PG on the pad per section) using the Metabo @ 1700RPM via a LC Orange pads (This one took 3 pads)

FPII @ 1100 via a LC finishing pad. (I wish that I had finished with Optimum instead)

Z6 Wipe Down

Z2/Z5 Pro mixed 50/50 by hand using a Zaino applicator x 1.

Final wipe down using Z6/Z8

Wheels: PwS (version 1), by hand.

Tires & Trim: I painted on Z16 with a foam brush x 2, and wiped off with a MF about 15 minutes between coats.

The roof was polished with 1 oz of ZPC mixed with 1 oz of Z2, and wiped down with Z8.
I want to see if this combo has any durability.

You guys are great!

THANK YOU for the kind words.

I had the Cherokee for another 4 hours tonight -you should see it now (LOL). I hope the owner enjoys the results.

He's a doubter -so I put in a 'little extra' on this one.

It passed inspection from my wife at 10:30pm -so I think I'm good to go (LOL).

ZaneO -Check out the Mira-Clean web site (mirachem). I've used it about a dozen times, and feel OK to post on it. Sean sent me a sample of the APC a few months ago (thank you), and it does a very nice job in auto applications. I really like the heavy degreaser spray on wells, engines and door jams. It just melts away the grime & filth.

Greg/Sean -I'll get back to you guys when I'm REMOTELY close to the work you guys do.

You two --in particular-- are inspirations (as are many others on DC).

I should have some of the APC on the way this week to try out. Hope I can get equal results.

Again, great work!

I was greeted by a very happy owner this morning.

"Now I can keep my truck for another 5 years. It looks like new".

The plastic side moldings were literally 'drinking' dressing. Last night I topped them with a NL & Leather Stuff using a MF mitt. This mix held.

Here's one last shot before pick up.
