1997 Ford F150 TLC'd

Well finally after getting settled into my new home and getting my garage up to speed I have finally had a chance to do some detail work on my personal cars. My 1997 F150 was in need of some paint correction and probably hadn't been polished in about a year and a half. I have maintained the truck with frequent washes, waxes, and clays but the time had come to put some serious time and effort into bring the paint back to where it should be.

This was my first time using the new Menzerna Power Finish and a must say that I am pretty impressed with it. It has a great cutting ability and finishes down very nicely. This detail took me about 8 hours start to finish. You don't realize how big trucks are until you start on them.

Day 1:

Wash with CG CWG at 2oz per gallon and 2 bucket method to remove old wax
Clay with Meguiars White Clay
Wheels cleaned with CWG and water
Interior wiped down and treated with PB Natural Look

Day 2:

Tape all exterior trim and plastic with blue painters tape
Polish via Makita 9227 and Menzerna 203 via Sonus white pad
Polish via Menzerna PO85RD and Sonus red pad
LSP=Zaino Z5 ZFX'd x2 (including all chrome)
Z8 wipedown
Glass cleaned with NXT Glass Cleaner
Trim detailed with Ultima Tire and Trim
Wheels and calipers treated with Zaino CS
Tires dressed with Megs All Season Dressing

Can't beat a Ford Truck! I just picked up an '08 F-150 FX2 Sport w/18k miles myself. Looking forward to having it around long term! Although, for 12 y/o w/90k miles it must be a garage queen

But here I am again looking at your post and choosing to talk about the less than obvious aspects.

I've been reading several posts where folks are using the Meg's clay. What do you think of the clay as compared to the other common (OTC) clays. ClayMagic (blue) Mother's (yellow).

Is that a soft tonneau cover? What mfg? Fastening system? How old? Your impressions?

I have Clay Magic (blue) and Mothers (yellow), haven't used the Meg's.

Don't care for the Mothers - if you were local here I would give you an unopened bar of it.

Wow that really shined up great !!

Awesome work, does it even have any orange peel ? It doesnt look like it.
I had a couple trucks, newer, an '04 Lightning and an '06 Harley Davidson, and they both had more orange peel than I would have liked.
This truck you have has way better looking paint - beautiful paint correction and polish !!
Thanks for sharing !

There is a YMMV situation...I prefer the Mother's clay to the Clay Magic. The Mother's is not as sticky, making it easier to fold/re-mold. But I still use both.

I am usually local to CO for a week each Summer, but not this year. Don't let those trout forget me.

Those are really nice packages! I was next to a F-350, 4x4, with the HD package this past weekend. Never had seen that combination of packages before.

Bumping my own post in hopes of some answers.
