The owner of this 1996 Camaro Z28 SS was getting ready to put it up for sale and wanted to get a little gloss back on the old girl. The paint is ROUGH on this guy, not just scratches and swirls but there are some fairly large areas with paint flaking off on the bumpers. I also found 2 or 3 spots on the spoiler that looks like someone burned the clear with a rotary at one time and I"m wondering if they also overheated the bumper. Anyway, there were a few spots that I couldn't polish at all and some I didn't get aggressive with at all. It's far from perfect, but it went from a 15 foot car to a 3 or 4 foot car. Process was:
- Wheels got OPC 3:1 w/ez detail brush
- Tires cleaned with OPC 3:1 and dressed with Optimum Tire Shine
- Washed with Chemical Guys Citrus Wash and sheepskin mitts
- D300 on 5.5" MF disc via GGDA
- M205 on 5.5" black lc pad via PC7424
- Blackfire Wet Diamond on lc Blue pad via PC7424
- Glass got SIG w/short nap glass towel
- Jambs cleaned with ONR
Before (You can see the difference in the hood and fender from where I did a test panel last week):
50/50 after D300:
Pillar Before:
Pillar after D300:
Pillar after M205:
Here are some afters. Not bad, definitely far from perfect but I was being pretty conservative due to the fact that some of the paint had already given up the ghost, and that at least a few panels were resprays.
Thanks for Looking!
