1995 Ferrari F355 Berlinetta - Rosso Corsa

I had the pleasure to work on this gorgeous Italian supermodel yesterday while most everyone else was doing last minute shopping and trudging through the snow from the day before. Just me, my supplies, and a LOT of red paint. A '95 model (OBD-1), this 355 was outfitted with a tubi exhaust and no cats . The car overall was in *very* good shape. This was one of those "take a 90% car and make it 99%+". For any laymen out there, this usually takes more time and a lot more attention to detail. I found my self checking, rechecking, walking around, and checking again. I wanted it dust, swirl, marr, haze, and any other sort of embellishment-free without risking the life of the finish. I spent about 9 hours without breaks on this one.

The interior was in great shape, but being delicate, I cleaned gently and repeated the cleaning process. My finals were:

-Folex and Steam to clean carpets and mats

-Zaino Z9 to clean leather (x 2)

-Zaino Z10 on leather (then dry towel wipedown 10 mins later)

-Zaino Z8 on gauges, stereo

-Stoner's Invisible Glass on glass and mirrors

Part of correcting those extra hidden details requires some intimate positions around the vehicle. Thankfully I was working in a 60* garage with ample lighting...

The paint was in nice shape but seemed a little dull and was affected by some light/moderate swirling, marring from the car cover and a fair amount of deep marrs most likely from improper washing techniques. Overall, I'm just nitpicking :). My finals were:

-Zaino Z7 Wash

-Zaino Z18 Clay with Z7 Wash as lube

-P21s Wheel Cleaner on wheels/exhaust

-EFHI cut 3:1 to clean tires, wells, gas compartment, engine (no pics)

-Zaino Z-PC via rotary and LC CCS White Polishing Pad @ 1400 rpm

-Menzerna PO106FF via PC and LC CCS Green Polishing Pad @ 6

-Clearkote RMG via PC and LC CCS Red Finishing Pad @ 4

-Zaino Z-AIO and #0000 Steel Wool on exhaust

-Zaino Z-CS on wheels/windows

-Zaino Z16 on tires (x2)

-Zymol Ital on paint (client supplied/requested)

Wet enough for ya?

Cheers.

Superb Sean!!! Really awesome work on probably the best looking Ferrari (IMO) in the last 15 years. Those cars are so awesome in person, its not even funny. Viva 355.

You definetly corrected it and brought it back, and its nice to see you up and at it!!!

Outstanding work as always, Sean. :bow

What made you decide to finish out with the PC instead of the rotary? Soft paint? Now that I have been using a rotary for a couple weeks, I find that soft paint is much tougher to finish out hologram free and end up reaching for my UDM. Can't beat a rotary's correction though.

Awesome work Sean! My customer had one of those with the exact same exhaust setup. It was definitely really nice, awesome sound. Unfortunately he doesn't have it anymore... Now I take care of his 03 Murcielago.

Looks amazing Sean!

I think that 355's with a Tubi exhaust sound better than any other Ferrari I have ever heard. I have heard 430's, 360's, 575's etc. with Tubi exhausts and nothing comes close to the sound of the the 355. I can't imagine how good it sounds without any cats on it!! If I owned that car I would never have to turn the radio on. I would be happy just listening to the exhaust.

Great work!!

Thanks everyone!

Scott: Yep, some soft paint. It wasn't incredibly soft, but the lack of clear made me a little weary as well as some hazing when finishing on the rotary. Lastly, the PC was a MUST for polishing a lot of that car. Polishing hard lines of the side and engine louvers is risky business; my success rate lied with the PC.

charles: I didn't. I just taped the Ferrari sign. The big areas of paint (middle, back towards window, and rear spoiler) were polished with the rotary first. I polished the entire rear deck there with the PC, twice. Prime the pad first and add the polish onto the pad. I had minimal polishing residue to clean from the engine once done.

Kenney: PC x 2. See above.

WhiteLexus: I'd say soft like a dark coloured BMW.

Rick: My client said when he went to the Ferrari meet, even Enzo owners said the same thing. He, himself, puts the exhaust note as "nirvana".
