1992 Vw Gti 16v

It took 18 years to get one, but I finally got the car that sunk the hot-hatch-hook in me.

The car got an exterior respray and a good mechanical once-over, and then I jumped in on the cleaning up and detailing.

Used PC w/Wolfgang Polish, Pinnacle Souveran wax. The interior oddly enough cleans up well with Murphy's Oil Soap (diluted) Used Griot's wheel cleaner and Mothers polish on the lips. Amazing how much grime collects in the crevices of even an enthusiast-owned car. The foam seals tend to degrade and turn to a brown interior dust that most owners ignore. Removal of that crud made all the difference.

Props to you for the excellent detail and your painter for the spray! Great looking A2!

If it weren't so perfect I'd say put a cage in it and go racing...then again the 16V isn't classified competitively. Mine's an '87 8-valve.

i think im misunderstanding you, it took you 18 years to find a '92 GTI? Am i just an ediot or are GTI's farily easy to fnd? I have one in my back yard, im not sure about the year, but i know its a 16 valve. It looks identical to yours, same interior (except that sick steering wheel), and except those awsome (BBS?) wheels!

This is coming from a true Volkeswagon collector and enthusiast, your car looks GREAT :xyxthumbs

P.S. by the looks of this picture, you are a VW nut! so i think this might make you lauph so ile tell you. Me and my father given the GTI a while back. The body is rusted out and all. The car was thrown together (body wise). The engine is perfect though. We think we are going to put the 16v in our VW rabbit pickup truck... with a cam! The truck already has the GTI inerior and grill and everything, and we are going to get an aftermarket front end. When its done ile sendem to you.

happy V dubbing! and take care of your car! To many of them are neglected!

What I meant was that money/school/life/buying a house/bills/etc took my time/money and I as the years marched on, finding the right GTI became a challenge.

This one:

-Last model year for the Mk2

-2 owners

-Sub 10K miles/yr of use

-Florida car w/out rust

-No wrecks

-Smart upgrades

-Intact interior

-Great maintenance history

-Etc.

The wheels are the original BBS w/2" widened lips. 15x8!"

Wow. That car is in better shape than original.

Why didn't you post all of those pictures in the Vortex thread?

I so badly want a MKI or MKII GTI.

Always loved the GTI. Had and '83 and '86. That one looks good and slightly lowered. Like the steering wheel. NICE!

New one is too much with too little hp but i still might get one.

Thanks everyone.

Stuart, the Mk5 2.0 turbo respond very well to upgrades. Or APR's stage 3, and then you'll have gobs of power.

...or you could do the Mk5 R32 (250hp, awd, etc) which is very nice. Just opened a Mk5R's eyes to clay, polishing w/a PC, not washing wheels w/the same mitt you wash wheels...

Jman - do I know you from vwvortex? Your username sounds familiar.

I'm on Vortex w/the same screen name.

Lived in Fairfax, ok Loudon county (back when you had to say west-of-fairfax and it was mostly horse farms) maybe we crossed paths there.
