1988 BMW M5 Finished carefully

Finally finished this project for the dealer!

The paint was very thin and single stage, so extra care had to be used. And, I managed to burn through an edge on the lower front fender. We knew the car had been compounded over its' 20 year life and tried to be as careful as possible.

For products, I used Meguiar's #83 where there was some correction needed, followed by Meguiar's Color X for depth and further surface enhancement.

Finally, I applied a heavy coat of Meguiar's #26 with a pc and let it dry completely. THEN, I power washed the car to remove excess product from body seams, etc. While the car was wet, I removed the 26 with new mf towels. The dampness on top of the 26 acted like a quick detailer so there was no towel hazing.

While the car is not Concour's level, it's very nice for a 20 year old vehicle with 100,000 miles. It's going into the dealer's collection of M Series.

Totoland Mach- Great job, especially the choice of products and that unusual regimen!

I really like those cars and I'm glad that one was in *your* hands.

Thanks Sir! Apparently, applying 26 and letting it dry, then power washing and removing is an old "dealer" secret....gotta admit, it worked and I wouldn't have tried that method myself.

I'm going to do another car next week and use that same LSP method.

I think you did a wonderful job on that classic. But those US bumpers and side markers are so ugly on that car.

It sounds vaguely (and I mean *very* vaguely) familiar, as in something I might've heard about, but never tried, back in the '70s

Superb work as always my friend!

Good 'ol #26. I might put a coat of it on my car this weekend just for the hell of it. :chuckle:

Two things:

1 - Another great BMW detail; I always grin when I see one of your posts up!

2 - I'm gonna retire next year. Does this dealership need a gofer/detailing helper? I think this is a place where I could hang out ; -)

Thanks again!

Meguiars might run out of #26 at this rate! :) Great work - brought that original paint back up to par. ;)
