1986 Vette vs. Zaino

1986 Corvette Convertible / Indy Pace Car.

This car was my mother-in-law’s 50th B-Day gift in 1986.

The most excitement this hot rod sees these days is a weekly trip to the hair salon (LOL).

The paint was filled with light marring from washing techniques :nervous2: , and a few random scratches for good measure. It’s been 2 years since I detailed her, so it was time for a clean up.

This one took me 6 hours, inside and out. I may have stretched it out a bit to escape the Holiday ‘spirit’ in the house (5 young children, all on sugar highs).

Process Used

Wash:

Before I started I brushed/vac’d the convertible top.

Z7 Wash, A2Z on the wheels, rubber, wells.

Mineral spirits on the lower panels to remove tar build up.

Polish:

ZPC via Metabo & LC CCS Green Pad @ 1400, and CCS finishing Pad @ 700.

Protect:

Z5Pro (zfx’d) x 2 on the paint, wheels, lighting, and jams.

Z16 on the tires, wells, trim, and top.

Interior:

vac

Kids & Pets on a few isolated carpet spots

New floor mats (Christmas gift)

Z7 wash diluted with warm water to wipe down everything.

EO on the glass

Z16 to protect all plastic parts

Z9/Z10 to clean protect the leather.

Here are a few after shots.

In the garage:

A few partial sun shots (any sun is RARE this time of year in Ohio).

LOL! Reminds me of Thanksgiving last year when I washed my sister's truck in the rain...

Looks like sun is no rarer than snow in Ohio. Nice weather for Detailing I would bet. I should be so lucky to have a finish on my vehicle like that in 21 years. WOW!!

Did you have to pull a trailer for all your detailing supplies? Has the Metabo usurped all the Cyclo time now or was it just a travel situation that kept the cyclo home?

Thanks guys.

cwcad: I just picked up a few 6.5" LC CCS pads, so the Metabo has been the tool of choice recently. I didn't pack many detailing supplies. My Zaino kit, Metabo, Wash Mitt, and 8-10 MF's. My out-laws have a few other odds and ends for glass, wheels, etc... Everything fit into my wash bucket and Metabo case. I really don't enjoy the Mall scene during Christmas, so I lined up a few details, and the ladies contributed to the Mall crowds.

Bigfoot: My parents live near Mansfield, not to far from Wooster, and my in-laws are near Columbus. I live in the state of DE.

Dave1: Thank you.

Fresh and clean! :spot Nice work.

I’ve got the ZPC and CCS pad itch for this weekend’s detail as well . . . can’t wait!

Excellent detail. :bow

Just did (polish with Z-PC and Z5/Z2PRO) a Bright Red 92 ZR1 (Show car) a couple of weeks ago. Fun color to work with and very rewarding using this combo.

Also excellent example of a C4 convertible. :xyxthumbs

Nicely done.

Bryan, Chris and I used a similar process on a Porsche Twin Turbo today. We will post pics by tomorrow.

Thanks for the kind words guys. The Out-Laws were pretty happy with the results. At the end of the day, that's what gives me satisfaction.

Lee, The Porsche detail looks amazing! Great job.
