1985 Pontiac Ferrari

or as I called this car the Fierarri. This is a 1985 Pontiac Fiero with a German body kit if I'm not mistaken which really made this car resemble a Ferrari. The front nose both front fenders, the back lid and the side panels below the moulding were clear coated. Everything else was single stage. I detailed this car a few months back and decided to share it with you all.

-Washed with Megs gold class

-Clayed with megs mild claybar

-Polished with rotory using Megs #80 and #8006 pad

-Waxed with Megs NXT (2 coats)

-Hyper Dressing on tires & wheel wells

This is the car when I first arrived to the jobsite. Car looked great at first.

After the wash I did check the paints condition with the Xenon light & the flash of the camera. Although this car looked great it was badly swirled.

On my test spot I found that #80 with the W-8006 pad on the rotory was my best choice. Some areas required 2 passes.

The pad shows the paint transfer which confirms the single stage paint

After claying the paint & #80 & two coats of NXT Wax the results

There was a small scratch in the paint to deep for me to do anything about

& finally the rear deck lid

Interior was vacuumed and dash was wiped down. Door hinge area was wiped down & dressed with hyper dressing.

Total Time: 9hrs 15min.

I'm impressed, that looks very good for NXT wax. Was it the 1.0 or 2.0? Paste or liquid?

Car looks great, and could probably fool some people about it not being a Ferrari. What'd it have for an engine?

Thanks. I used the NXT 1.0 liquid. Shortly thereafter I purchased some 2.0 which is even better. As for the engine I believe it was the 2.8 V6. Some of these guys were putting V-8's in these little things & creating a monster on the track.

Actually, this car only looks like it added the front valance (from a later Fiero GT) and Ferrari style rear light bezel. All in all, a tasteful transformation. There were actually conversions to make the Fiero look like a 308 that were sold at certain dealerships. That lasted for about a year before Ferrari sued and effectively stopped the sale. It is interesting that Ferrari sued and stopped production of many rebodies/kits ( Tom McBurnie's California rebodies come to mind, think Miami Vice ) whereas, Lamboghini has taken a hands-off approach (they seem confident in that people will be able to distinguish between the real and the fake).

Thanks. After I detailed this car within a week I saw about 2 stock fieros driving out on the street. Maybe I just never paid attention before. I was told that some of the Fiero ownerswere installing Cadillac Northstar engines in these things. I'm sure that makes a crazy little rocket.

@Hemin8r:

I've seen several at Cars at Carlisle. (PA) Some shoehorn the 3.8L V6 (normally aspirated and supercharged), Quad4, Ecotec 2.2/2.4 , Northstars. The 1988 GT is the most sought after as the engineers got their way and finally designed a decent suspension. (as compared to a modified Chevette suspension).

That car takes me back. Had the exact same 1985 model myself. In 1987 I got my first Porsche (944 Turbo) and the poor Fiero GT sat and sat until I gave it to a buddy who run it up to nearly 300,000 miles. Tough little car.

Nice job on the paint. Car looks great!
