1965 Sting Ray Vette

Tex Star Detail

Formerly TexasTB
Let me apologize about the pictures first... I really need to start bringing my camera vs. my cell phone.....

1965 Sting Ray
I went into this detail without seeing it. I talked to the guy over the phone, got some insight on the paint and what he was looking for. It was little rougher than I expected, but it wouldn't be fun/challenging it they were all easy, right?

Here are a couple before pics....

The reflection of the floor on the quarter panel makes it look scratched....

I managed to get about ~85% correction. (using my PC..... Flex is still broke and debating on getting a RUPES vs. fixing the FLEX at the moment) Wasn't going for perfection....or I should say I wasn't charging for perfection...... He has a collection of vettes and other cars that I am hoping to pick up. This one will be in a car show on Saturday. I'm going to head out before the show to add another layer of wax for him. He also want's me to make a sign that says "Detailed by Tex Star Detail" with my info on it (and biz cards) so he can place it next to his plaque with info about the car....

It was re-painted back in 1990 and never detailed since. When I spoke to him over the phone, he mentioned it was single stage paint, with added hardener. I went in thinking it was going to be SOFT paint, as most black single stage paints are (at least from my experience). This paint was TOUGH, with little paint transfer onto the pad. I had to change up my whole method I thought I was going to use for SS paint and use something else. I used a ton of different product.

On the hood, tops of fenders, and the 'decklid' I settled on Meguiars Ultimate Compound/Orange LC pad for the 1st and 2nd pass. 3rd pass was SIP on a white LC pad. (hey, it worked) and then 4th pass was 85RD, white LC pad.
Below the body line, I use Menz. FG400, followed by 85RD.
Topped with Powerlock.

It was odd paint to work with. What seemed to work on one part of the car, didn't want to work on another part. I thought I would go in with D300 and a MF cutting pad and be golden, but the paint just laughed and said bring it on......

Very nice job, this is my fathers "Dream Car" so to speak, he drooled all over himself when I sent him the link.

On another note... Pic #4... Was he setting/sliding cardboard boxes across his car? dear lord.

Excellent work! I love Mid-Year Corvettes (well just about any Corvette). 1965 drop-top Fuelie!!! In black!!! PERFECT!!!! :bigups

It really needed some wet sanding on the front clip. The paint was pretty dry. I just wish I had something other than my stinkin' PC..... I know I could have gotten a LOT better results. (even though he wasn't paying for paint correction, I was striving to do it)

the 50/50 shots on the fender tell the strory of lots of hard work & dedication to get to the finish line! nice work. very nice!
