not really, you can use a Porsche gear box and rear suspension in almost any VW with out much modification. When i was in college we put a six speed tranny from a Porsche in a bug. and the rear end is already IRS, and it uses torsion bars so they naturally fight roll. The front end could be replaced with an IFS and the only problem would be the aerodynamics and it being top heavy.

I never get tired of seeing that. What impresses the hell out of me is watch that thing take corners. It barely has any roll to it. Sick, I want one!
