147 MPH Hyundai Sonata

Police caught a guy with cameras doing a 147 MPH on a Arizona hiway with a rented Hyundai Sonata. Car and Driver magazine said that they didnt think a Sonata would go that fast.Since they had a Sonata in there test fleet they deceided to see how fast there car would go. They got there car up too 144MPH. I guess a Hyundai Sonata v/6 is some guick machine.

I heard about that a few weeks ago. Apparently, Hyundai said the V6 Sonata would only go 137 mph and that might have been enough to question all the photo radar tickets in Scottsdale. A few tests later showed that slightly downhill, it is possible for one to hit 147 mph. I hear he got several 100+ tickets over a couple of days via photo radar.

Let me guess. He must have been on 101. :chuckle:

Well, those speeds can be achieved with gearing. You don't always need a monster engine for 140 :)

240 is a different ballgame though

I believe he was. It isn't like the city hasn't made people aware of the speed cameras. :nixweiss

That's the only place in the Valley that has the cameras on the freeway. I recall reading an article on the cameras and they did clock someone doing 142 but they haven't found him yet.
