10 Second STREET car

Way2SSlow

~werd to yo mutha~
This car belongs to a close friend of mine. It's by far the Coolest Fox body that I've ever seen. I say that because it puts down 500 hp and 500 ft/lbs to the wheels, yet is as streetable as a stock Mustang. The owner has done his best to keep the car looking stock while building something that he can drive to the track, race around all day and drive it home. It's got a full Steeda suspension under it and has turned some pretty respectable times in a few autocross events, and has broken 10's in the quarter mile at 127mph all in street trim (the 10 second pass had skinnies up front and slicks out back...but other than that, it was run exactly how it was DRIVEN to the track). My picture taking skills combined with the lighting didnt make for really impressive pictures, but I assure you the car came out nicely. It was dark by the time the car was finished and we got SNOW (yep, snow in GA) today, so the car was being left at the owner's shop. Man, it is nice to have a rack to put the car up for polishing the low parts. The car was recently repainted in single stage red. This is the first time in a while that I didn't use the rotary.

Here's the process:

Clay with Claymagic blue

PB SSR2 via polishing pads (kept changing them as they kept turning red :D)

Optimum Poliseal via polishing pad

Pinnacle Souveran by hand

Onto the pics:

Sanding marks: You'll notice the right half is done and the left half isnt. Hard time getting the pics to show that

In the next one, the top of the door is polished and the bottom isnt

93 Cobra wheels. I didnt polish them or dress the tires, but I've always loved those wheels

I kinda like the 5.0 on the side, but this car really looks smooth w/o it IMO. I took this picture because I like to give him hell about the logos missing:

I didnt detail the motor, I concentrated on the body only, but I know you guys will want a pic, so here it is:

Forgot to add...The trim missing from the car was removed by the owner for the detail. Made it much easier to polish for sure.

Looks great! Did that car originally belong to a guy that owned a shop off of Canton Hwy in Marietta (near Hwy92)? I used to deliver parts to a guy that had a car just like that and he was selling it, but that was years ago.

i wish i had a lift to detail my cars... :D one day. Try a tri-pod next time you take a picture. i have the same problem in low light, and need to pick one up too.

Nope. My buddy Henry built that from a stock car into what it is. This is actually his second red one. An unfortunate accident claimed the first car, so he went out and found this one which was an identical stock car and swapped the engine and drivetrain out of the wrecked one into this one.

Thanks for the compliments guys. I was really excited to clean this one up. Being that he's a friend and that I've always loved that car. I'm not ashamed to say that this car had me screaming like a little girl in the passenger seat. It may not look as fast as it is, but I'll tell ya.....it sure scared me. :D

Hopefully, I'll get some better pics in the sun. I'm definintely in need of some photography lessons and a tripod. One of our other buddies has a yellow 04 Cobra was asking me to do his next. That should be fun too. :D

Here's a few more. They looked a lot better on the camera. I was a little disappointed when I saw them on the PC. Oh well...

Hey bro, awesome work! The results are Perfection! I see a HUGE differance in the paint. IMO that very last shot is the best view. Excellent work, and tell your buddy that car is hard!

Hey, I love the sleeper cars. Part of why I liked my old Ford Taurus SHO. A wolf in sheep's clothing as opposed to sheep in wolf's clothing (ie Eclipse GS, 3000 SL & GTs).

I'm more impressed that a Chevy guy would sully himself to detail a Ford :). But I see you own a Ford too, so you seem to be an equal opportunity detailer!

Right on. It is definitely a sleeper. The exhaust sounds nice, but the blower is QUET. It's an SQ. As far as cars go, I like em all. I dont care so much about the brand, if it's cool.

Mike,

send me some more cards man!

I love those fox bodies. Great job on the detail too, paint looks outstanding.

Oh and I agree I like it better with the badges on the side. But either way, most people will only see the rear end anyways ;)

Thanks guys.

B,

I gotta keep practicing if I want to get way up there on your level with ya. I kinda cheat a little bit though. I'm not scared to turn away cars like your LS430. :D

Nice work on a sweet car!

The '92 hatch I just bought has the same wheels. I am gearing up for the full scale paint correction, so I definitely need to get the scoop on that window trim removal. I know there's a special tool to use, but I'm a little sketchy on the technique.

Thanks.

I didnt actually take the trim off myself, but I watched him do it. The backglass pieces were a little bit more of a PITA. He did have a trim tool that helped in removing them. I see you're in Dacula, PM me if you ever need a good Mustang mechanic and I will put you in touch with him.
