10$ orbital buffer

hey guys, i'm new to the forum. I've read alot and cleaned my 96' maxima thoroughly for the first time a few days ago.



washed with Gold Class shampoo/conditioner

mother's clay

washed again

step 1,2, and 3 of meguiar's deep crystal paint cleaner and wax.....



unbelievable results.



Sorry for long introduction but my question is this: After I cleaned the car to what I thought of as perfection I noticed horrible swirls. BTW this is a white maxima.



My conclusion I'm coming to is that swirl removal can only be acheived with a buffer. And I have an orbital buffer that cost 10$ at home depot from a while ago. I used it once and probably ruined something (used it on my civic a while ago).



Is this buffer any good? will it work decent or just harm the paint? It has 2 speeds, low and high. I plan on getting the proper pads for it if you guys say it'll work.



I've read some stuff on buffing but am still a little scared of it with my new found knowledge from this forum. this forum rules!

it is too weak to remove swirl marks or any sort of paint defects. Buy a Porter cable 7336 from any of the vendors here. Its a bit more money, but it is powerful enough to removed swirls but safe enough for a beginner.
 
David Bynon's own car products store has a great link to download a copy of his very informative guide to detaling--Autopia Guide to Detailing. It would be a great thing to read as a primer and more on the ins and outs of detailing.



This should be more than enough to get you started and help out with the buffer/polishing questions.

I think you answered your own question... "ruined a civic."



Plus, you know you want the PC. After you buy some cheap orb buffer, you'll think about the PC everday because that's all we talk about here. Then one day you'll buy the PC. And the cheap stuff you bought would have been a waste.
