06 Viper SRT-10 Paint Correction by M.R. Detail Shop

Make it shine!

New member
This prospective client called me and asked if I could get the exterior back to new, I told him not a problem and that it would look better than new when I was done with it. I'm sure he believed me as he made an appointment but it's always great to see the smile on a new clients face when the car is all finished. He was amazed at how the car popped and said he would definitely start driving it around town more often looking the way it does now. Another satisfied client and succesful M.R. Detail Shop reconditioning. As a side note I'll be doing the interior, engine compartment and another coat of wax in early October. Here is what went into getting the beautiful beast back into form.

Wash:
  • 2 Bucket Method with Grit Guard Inserts, Uber sponge and a concentrated wash media to strip whatever protection was on the paint
  • Wheels were cleaned with Sonax wheel cleaner and various brushes
  • Tires and wheel wells were cleaned with APC+(4:1) and various brushes
  • All emblems and decals were meticulously cleaned with a boars hair detail brush and APC+(10:1) to get all the old wax and dirt from behind the emblems
  • Door jams were cleaned with ONR and a sheepskin wash mitt
  • Glass inside and out were cleaned with Invisible Glass and a microfiber towel
Paint Prep:
  • Hood, Roof, trunk, quarter panels and doors were clayed using Pinnacle Poly Clay and Dodo Juice Born Slippery clay lube
  • Side rocker panels, rear bumper and front grille were clayed using Clay Magic Blue (a little more aggressive to get all the contamination) and Dodo Juice Born Slipper clay lube
  • M205 with a flat Orange LC 5.5 inch cutting pad
  • Menzerna Power Finish with a flat White LC 5.5 inch polishing pad
  • Menzerna PO85RD Polish with a flat Blue LC 5.5 inch finishing pad
  • Danase Wet Glaze with a Black Uber 5.5 inch finishing pad
Dressing:
  • All trim was dressed and protected with 303 Aerospace Protectant
  • Vents in the front quarter panels were restored with Poorboys Trim Restorer
  • Tires were dressed with Optimum Tire Bond Gel
LSP:
  • Applied 2 layers of Poorboys Wheel Sealant to the wheels
  • Dodo Juice Blue Velvet Hard Wax
Misc items used during detail:
  • PC 7424X
  • DI Waffle Weave Drying Towel
  • DI Microfiber Ultra Plush double-sided towel to remove polish
  • Uber No Name microfiber towel to remove wax
  • Various detail brushes
Before

Sonax wheel cleaner at work, I really like the cleaning ability it has and that's the main reason why its my wheel cleaner of choice. But it's also great to see the clients face when it starts to turn red, it's a real good conversation piece.

50/50 paint correction after M205 and Power Finish

Great job!

I think I finally found someone who can answer a question that's been troubling me for awhile. I've recently purchased a new silver 09 Viper SRT-10with black stripes. The lot clean up guy added a few swirls that are noticeable on the black stripes, not so much on the silver due to the color.

My question is this: are the stripes painted and clear coated and therefore able to take a PC to remove the swirls? I read somewhere that some stripes were vinyl stickers so I wasn't sure if it would have been a good idea to polish them.

Thanks in advance!

Great job and great post. Can you tell me how many passes you needed to make on each pannel with each step to get that clarity. Thruly looks great.

Thank you very much. It varied per panel, but mostly 2-3 passes with the M205 and Power Finish, the PO85RD I did 3 passes to make sure the gloss and clarity were ramped up. Where are you on LI?

Nice job on a nice car!
Thanks man, the car is a beast. I love the Vipers so much especially this color it reminds me of the Cobra's if you catch it at the right angle from the hood.

In my experiences they are not vinyl stickers, I have done 3 Vipers this past season, not to say that there are some out there. The racing stripes have had clear coat but not a heavy application of it so be carfeul don't get too aggressive with you technique. If you are using a PC I don't think you should have a problem, but again be careful and don't rush the process.

I am in Merrick, NY-LI.

Just wondering M205 is a Finishing polish and should have less cut then Power finish but you used that first?? Do you find that the Cut of 205 is more then power finish?

Oddly enough yes, I find that with the correct pad and technique M205 has more cut then a bunch of other polishes that are supposed to be more aggressive. In addition I feel that the Menzerna polishes finish down a whole lot better then M205 does.
