06 Torrid Red GTO

This is my first click and brag, I normally just browse the forums, but I guess it is about time to make a few posts.



The pictures aren't the best as I had to borrow a camera for this, but hopefully you all will get an idea.



First off, this is my personal car, and of all the cars I have done it is the one that gives me all the problems. The car has the softest finish I have ever dealt with. While other GTOs I have worked on have had a soft clear, this one takes the cake.



I started off trying to correct some light hazing I had left behind last time I detailed the car, and I ended up just using a PC with a white pad and Optimum polish, I tried FP on white and somehow it still left micro marring.

Only very light hazing, it is barely visible in the pictures

Afters (It was late and with the clouds it was hard to get a direct sun shot)

I forgot to mention that I also dressed the tires with Sonus Tire Dressing, vacuumed the interior, used Stoners invisible glass on the windows, and tomorrow I'm going to finish the interior when I Lexol the seats. I'll update with interior pictures tomorrow.

Upwards of 30 on the highway, about 20 in town. EPA rates it at 25 on the highway, but reality is that driving at 70 in 6th it gets anywhere between 28 and 30. In town it depends what kind of driving I was doing, when I was at UT the drive from garage to garage was about a mile and it returned about 15mpg on those drives, but driving around back home where there isn't any stop and go traffic I get about 20 out of it.

Thanks, I really love the car. I just wish the little improvement needed hadn't been such a pita. Figures if it would be any paint to give me trouble it would be mine, but that little improvement really does alot on a non-metallic color.

You must explain how you get 30 mpg highway and 20 city. When I was driving my gto daily I got 12-14 mpg city and I have never seen over 25 mpg highway (that's at 70 mph). Great cars, but terrible gas milage.

Any car is going to give you terrible mileage if not driven well. And could you please explain how driving a 6 liter 400HP/400 lb-ft V8 in a 3700+ lb car poorly and still getting 25 MPG is "terrible"?

I drive exactly 70mph on the highway. My best friend has one and gets about what you get, but he is a little more throttle happy with his. I use skip shift rarely, but typically stay below 2k rpms in town and I'm usually in 3rd gear by 18-20mph. Also once I get to speed in town I'm either in 5th or 6th gear depending on the speed limit. It just depends on how you drive it. I drive it like an 80 year old woman would throttle wise, and it rewards me with really good fuel economy.

Hmm, my record is clean as well. Maybe I'll look into it after this month (I turn 21 at the end of the month).

I bought mine last July when I was 21 and I just called my insurance company to get rates. I know that alot of other people I know complain about their rates, but I don't know their records, or if they are the only ones on their plans. They are great cars, and the 06s still have a year or so left on their existing warranties so you can avoid maintanence costs, for the most par, for at least a year. They are great cars to own, you won't be disappointed.
