06 Corvette with Z5Pro

The weather was great and I wanted to try Z5Pro on my Corvette. I used some of Seans tips - specifically adding a pump of Z8 to the Z5Pro and wetting the applicator with distilled water before using. It let me spread the Z5Pro thinner than ever before and made everything easier. I mixed a little less than 1 ounce and still had product left over.

Great tips, Thanks Sean!

Whoa, Looks stunning! I've always had a certain love for cars of that color, But your Atomic Orange is the best looking I've seen yet. Simply a most excellent detail on an awesome ride!

Wow ! Just curious why you used Prime instead of ZPC ? Also Sean uses AIO instead of ZPC.

Are Prime & AIO similar?

Looks deep and wet!

With posts like this and Sean's, there is no doubt that Z5pro will be going on the wifes car next.

Thanks for the compliments!

ZaneO - The flake pop is too close for me to call, maybe a very slight edge to AJ. I used to reserve Z2Pro for extra flake pop, but the new Z5Pro seems as good as anything else Ive tried. For the added wetness and slickness, Z5Pro is my favorite all around sealant.

Dogma - Prime and AIO are made by the same parent company, Carlack, in Germany. Its probably an updated version of AIO. Besides being a great chemical cleaner/polish, it leaves extra durability with its acrylic base (which is slick itself, making thin applications of Zaino even easier). I chose it over Z-PC because Prime is not abrasive, Z-PC is and I didnt have any swirls or marring to remove. If I had, I would have reached for Blackfire Final Polish, also my current favorite for swirl removal.

Here is a description of Prime from Jeff himself:

"In particular, Prime works well as a basecoat for a very wide range of toppers... carnauba waxes, polymers sealants, acrylic sealants, etc. I've actually never heard of an instance that there was an incompatibility issue. So, it's like AIO in that way, but Prime has a superior clarity that avoids the silvery sheen that some people do see with Klasse. Prime certainly could be topped by Z2.

But, I would still stick with Prime (original, Acrylic, or Strong) and top with AJ or Trigger. I think this will give you the clear, wet, flake-popping look that will make this color really brilliant. And, all of these products are based on our resistant acrylic polymer technology and include the most effective UV protection available in paint care. So, a combo like this will give you both the looks and the durable protection that you're looking for (and quite good longevity as a bonus). Trigger is so easy to use, you could quickly add a refreshing layer whenever the mood strikes!

YOW!

How did I miss this?

Craig: It looks absolutely STUNNING! Jeez, people must drive off the road when they see that thing :D.

Yeow, that thing is HOT! Those pics belong on the Zaino site.

Thoughts on LSP: Zaino vs. Werkstatt on your Vette?

I've seen pics with both now. That might be my new fav. Vette color.

Thank you for all the kind words!

Sean - I dont know about driving off the road, but it seems anywhere I drive, everyone wants to race me or they yell to see it go! I still want to see that gorgeous G35 up close....

John - I think the Werkstatt products are great. As for LSP, I only have the AJ-T. The Prime/AJ-T is a great combo, very clear and incredible for flake. I still use the Prime as a precleaner and base, but the new Z5Pro gave me greater wetness and depth, while still giving great clarity for the metallic. Maybe Carnuba Jett would be closer, but I dont have it to try.

AJ-T is very easy to use, but I find it a little heat sensitive. If the surface is hot or in partial sun, I have a bit a of a streaking issue. Out of the sun, cool surface - no problem. Durability is good, but not near Zaino in my experience. My biggest concern ( and believe me, its probably JUST me being anal) is that with the spray on/work in sealants like AJ-T, OCW, etc. Im never really sure about total and complete coverage. For me on my personal cars, I like to be able to coat the car and as it hazes be able to see if I missed anywhere.

I have been a long time Zaino user, but with the latest revisions my old favorites, I find them perfectly suited to my needs and wants in LSPs. For friends and customer cars, the Werkstatt products get the same WOW as Zaino. They look good, easy and quick to use, and more economical.

I have also found Werkstatt and Zaino to work very, very well together. Prime works well under Z2 & Z5; it adds protection/slickness and allows you to apply thin Z layers quickly. Z6 works well as a QD with AJ-T and Z8 turns the look up a notch over it.
