04 green f150, interior & exterior, scratch correction, 25 pics

did this one for free, so thats why it's not in a show car state. owner did not want clay. paint has been neglected, but not abused. when i would wash it, it would dry "dirty" especially the chrome. i don't know how to get the oxidation off the plastic, can someone give me a tip? i tried plastx and back to black. the oxidation just laughed at both :sadpace:



I really wish the owner would have let me do full correction, or even clay and wax. the truck really needed it. when i washed and dried the roof, it felt like 3000grit :sadpace:. also, i think thats why i couldn't get the paint or chrome "clean"...i washed it twice





owner lets his brown lab loose in the back. the scratch was from backing into a mail box. :down



Process:



Interior:

- remove all mats

- scrub with SG APC 3:1 & TWPshampoo 3:1, stiff brush

- tons of vacuuming

- Lexol on all leather surfaces, foam pad & tooth brush

- meguiar's lc&c on all leather surfaces

- ONR jambs

- Wax jambs with mother's carnuba paste

- ONR @ CL strength to on plastics

3 hours



Exterior:

- petreat wheels&tires with SG APC 3:1 & TWPS 3:1, let dwell

- wells, same process

- grout sponge to agitate

- clay front wheels

- dress tires with meg's HD 3:1

- wash w/ TWPS via grout sponge (different one) ;)

- dried with 2/ MFs

2 hours





Correction: (scratch only)

- clay affected area w/ CM blue

- 5.5 inch low pro orange pad pb ssr2.5 via pc speed 6 - 2 passes

- OD light polish 6.5 inch white CCS pad via. pc speed 6 - 1 pass

- EO nano wax paste

15 minutes

The after pics were taken after the owner went for a short drive with a passenger, so theres some dirt. i cant believe i forgot to take afters. :sadpace:
 
Great reconditioning work! I'd have to say alot of Autopian Pros wouldn't know where to begin on a vehicle this bad, but you did a great turn around.
 
Great improvement! Why did you do it for free and why didn't the owner want clay? Seems kind of useless to do a detail if there are still contaminants on the paint.
 
I can count on one hand the people I'd do that for free for. Very good job. I think th UV damage/oxidation on the trim needs to be re-dyed or at least use Hitemp's Bumper and molding renew to look better. Regular water based dressings will only sit on the surface and won't penetrate enough to help. I wonder how long before the Lab is back in it though? He needs to put somthing down when the dog's in there:

Those new Ford plastics sure are a pain to keep nice. You can use an oil-based dressing (CG's Liquid Extreme comes to mind), but it will run in the rain, or you can dye them (but the dye will look pretty lousy in 6 months). Kind of a no-win situation.

rebelde33, i did it for my uncle. hes taken me on a few fishing trips in the past and stuff, so, really he's already paid me, in a way. he didn't want a clay because "it doesn't need it", i don't think he trusts me, clay or a polisher. i think the only reason he let me take car of the scratch is because he saw the badass results on the rest of the truck. plus he always sees my car and how it looks, and he knows i polish it .



integritydetail, thanks for the tips. i was trying the plastx because i figured i could rub a bit of the oxidation off, but i was like spit in a rainstorm. and even black magic wasn't heavy enough to cover it up, LOL. i give it about a month before the lab is back in the truck. what brand is that cover? i will recommend something like that to him for sure.



themightytimmah, thanks! when he washes the truck (not very often) he uses a mix of TWP and dish soap :grrr . i think thats one reason why the trim is so terrible. even the window sill and stuff are oxidizing. on a 04! my 03 mustang's sills look almost new.

i just noticed in the OP i put 2 hours for the scratch removal :doh



exterior was about 2 hours and the scratch was 15-20 minutes



and whoever it was that said not waxing and stuff is a waste, i completely agree with you.



i can't stand to wax a vehicle unless i can at least clay it before.
