03 Lexus GX470 detail... damn carpets!!

Well heres a 2003 Lexus GX470, in pearl white. First off, the color was nothing to work with. Second the carpets were trashed by two of the owners children. (Still awaiting extractor :( can't wait till it gets here... must have now!) Third, I'm sorry guys but the lighting sucked... I had to take some pics in the garage, which both came out crappy, but I'm going to post them anyway. Overall, one of my more disappointing details, even though the owner liked the results... Now I'm going to have 3 cars to do when the weather is good. YHEY! :D

Process was:

Interior:

-Oxiclean mix/hot water for carpet

-Woolite/hot water for all leather, dash, doors, center console

-Natural Look Dressing on everything that was cleaned with woolite.

-Spray & Wipe on glass

Exterior:

-Wash w/ Mothers Gold x2

-PB's PP

-PB's EXP+

-Trade Secret Carnauba Wax

-PB's BnB on Tires

-PB's Trim Restorer on Trim

Befores are of the interior only... the pics of the outside didnt really show the dirt on the car.. probably cause of the lighting and color of the car.

Hmm...I see $50,000 still doesn't buy 100% leather seating.

what do you mean?

I love the pearl white! :D

I see a handprint on the floormat. :wavey

yeah... the pearl looked sick under the sun.. the camera did a crap job of capturing the pearl, as you can tell. you're right there is a handprint on the floormat :wall

Looks beautiful Navindra. Love the sunset shots. :bow

They look like leather seats to me. Ive been in several GXs...leather everywhere cept for sides of seat.

i think this car was well worth the money spent though.. the navi was cool, it showed that the car was parked backwards in my driveway, and also, i could raise and lower the car.. i didnt even know lexus had that? the dvd system was cool, as well as the mark levingson sound system...

the only thing that pissed me off, was how the h*** did it not have hid lights, or xenons? oh well.. his other 3 cars have it though... :shocked

What I mean by not having 100% leather is that part of the seats are vinyl. You can tell which parts are vinyl in the pictures because they do not match the rest of the seat. Most cars are not 100% leather.

Greg,

I'm not sure why you are focusing on this detail but Lexus seats are almost all leather. I don't have any vinyl pieces on mine and I have an ES. I also don't recall seeing any vinyl in the GX.

Perhaps you are thing about another brand or focusing on some small part of the seat...

Any opinions on cleaning the car in general; flaws on the interior/exterior? I only ask because I have the exact same car coming on Saturday in the metallic grey color and from what I understand it is in pretty rough shape.

I've noticed that on the GX's too, unlike all other Lexus vehicle, except maybe the IS, it seems like it was built to a price. Some of the interior materials are not what they are in other Lexus vehicles (vinyl on the seat etc). Look at the buffed shine of the leather and parts like the steeringwheel etc and compare them to other Lexus' the interiors of the GX age quicker because of lower quality materials. I don't understand why, its not an inexpensive vehicle. The RX330 and the ES both feel higher quality to me and they're much cheaper.

As for the xenons, niether the GX or LX Lexus' have xenons. Again, no clue why.

The detail is awesome! You really made the pearl paint jump out.

Okay, it is "pleather." Didn't say anything about other Lexus models as I really do not know, but it is obvious by looking at the color differences that there is some other material used on certain parts of the seating in the GX. Does it matter? Not at all, I was just surprised to see that in a $50,000 vehicle. I had no intentions of taking away from Lexus.

Very nice detail.:xyxthumbs Really like the color of the paint. But I agree, not a big deal about having the seats not 100% leather (heh, my Audi has even more vinyl) except for the color mis-match as it ages. My wife's '00 GS300 has leather on all seat surfaces except for the back where the pocket is and the pocket itself. No color mis-match yet.

One thing I find odd, white pearl exteriors usually come with beige interiors but this one is gray. Maybe just a difference with the GX. Beige w/wood looks great but somehow gray doesn't look right with the color of wood inserts used. Maybe better in person, JMHO.

That was the tip, right? ;)

Greg, I understand what you're talking about. Where are the 'pleather' sections you mentioned though? It might be my monitor (Notebook) but I don't see them. I was surprsed to see recently that BMW offers a "Leatherette" interior. Is this AKA pleather? :rofl

Leatherette is the German way of saying vinyl. In the picture above, that piece that is going front to back on the drivers seat closest to the console is pleather as well as the side part of the seat that is nearest the console. It's more obvious in the pictures that show the back of the seats. In those pictures you can see that the two materials are completely different shades of gray.

Yep, leatherette and pleather are classier ways of saying vinyl. Do you really think someone buying a BMW would pay extra for leatherette if it was called vinyl instead? LOL

Areas circled in yellow are the vinyl parts. Just found it funny that a $50,000 vehicle does not have that much more real leather than my car at a little over half the price, or even the 4Runner at $15,000 less.

Oops, I'm dwelling on it again. ;)
