'02 Z06 Corvette detail (56K = no way)

1 Clean WS6

Detailing Rottweiler
Hey all!!

This Z belongs to a relatively new client of mine...he also owns that TrailBlazer SS that I posted pics of a while back. He is a super nice guy and found me after having problems with his former detailer. The owner stated that the quality of his work went down as his prices went up. Finding Zaino smeared in the Z06 badges and between the body seams confirmed the client's statements to me. His loss...my gain (and apparently the owner's gain too). ;)

The car is a 43K mile vehicle that was at one time a daily driver and to this day is not garaged. At one point in its life the car was completely wet sanded and the level of OP is the best I've seen on any C5. However, since it sits outside it has again gotten some acid rain damage. :( You can see a few of the pits in the bright sun shots I'll post. I advised the owner not to get it done again (until it becomes garaged full time) as he plans on keeping the car. It is one of those "learn to live with it" deals IMHO. Such is life in the smog ridden ATL.

I last polished the car with ZPC and sealed with Z-5 in early February. He brought the vehicle in to a local speed shop to have some work done last month and they washed the car...with rocks in their mitts is my guess!! Everything I had done for the last detail was completely undone...and then some. The car had heavy marring from stem to stern. I tried to capture some pics of it in these "before" shots...

That is marring not a reflection to the right of the sun...

Same thing to the left of the sun in this photo...

Below is a description of the products and process used.

Enjoy,

Mike

Wash with Meg's Gold Class shampoo

Polish with Poorboy's SSR3 and a LC orange pad with my PC set at 5-6. SSR3 because Vette clear isn't hard...right GT and gm?? :grinno:

Polish with Poorboy's SSR2 and a LC white pad with my PC set at 5-6.

Seal with Poorboy's Natty's Blue Paste Wax.

CCW rims are uncoated and were polished with AIO and sealed with PB's wheel sealant. The exhaust system was polished with PB's Pro Polish. All plastic trim has Meg's #40 while the tires and wells have AA.

I'd say about 95% marr free...

Awesome work! I'm really curious to see how hard a corvette clear is because I'll be working on one soon. If you don't mind me asking, what did you charge?

Any idea what shift knob that is? Looks like an MBA but I can't seem to find them around anymore :(

Oh, and the detail looks great, of course ;)

Awesome work as always Mike. Your reflection shots crack me up. The BMW's are best.

With your quality of work I would have thought you would have at least used a clean MF on the license plate.. :nana:

Excellent job, Mike. :)

I know how hard you worked getting those defects out after detailing a C5 on Monday. The paint looks so much better after your polishing steps and Natty's Blue. :up

Looks great Mike. :2thumbs:

PC set to "Vette". :chuckle:

His car was one the the reasons I thought about getting a wet sand because I thought it looked so much better.

Now, I don't have to. :hifive:

Very nice job.

And yes...Vette clear is just so soft :) (read for anyone else: Vette clear is CRAZY hard)

I am yet to see anyone claiming to have gotten a Vette 100% mar free without wetsanding.

:thx all for the very kind words!!!

BlackSunshine it is a MBA piece and unfortunately they closed shop in 2005. Whatever inventory that is out there is all that is left. A sad day as they were one of the better vendors I have ever dealt with. My WS6 is covered in MBA bits and pieces. They were one of those company's that when you ordered from you flat out knew sight unseen that you were getting a quality product.

Pat whatever do you mean?? That's a clean microfiber...I use ones like that on paint. ;)

Mike as always your work is top notch! :woohoo:

I know you take alot of pride in your work and it really shows from the sun shots! I have seen detailers on other forums who always have pics that hide the fact that they are just smearing some zaino on and nothing else. :dance

Finishing this detail off with the "cod shot" is what seperates the big boys from the "wanna be" detailers. :lol

GT, Repeat after me:

Vette clear is not that hard

Vette clear is not that hard

Vette clear is not that hard

Vette clear is not that hard

Vette clear is not that hard

Vette clear is not that hard
