01 BMW M5 (Black... 30 Pics)

This is a 2001 BMW M5 with around 93,XXX miles. Half the car has been repainted one point or another and sees nothing but auto washes. Wow this car was rough. I got so frustrated with it. The repainted panels buffed out to near perfection while the original painted panels were a PITA. The was overspray over the car which seemed to have LOCKED in swirls that were existent before its visit to the body shop. Nothing short of complete wet-sanding would have cured that and that would have taken A LOT more hours of work then what I had already spent on the car. I spent a total of 9 hours on the car and it honestly could have used 9 more. So I did what I could. There were plenty of swirls left that the camera for some reason did not pick up on some of the after pics.

Process:

Wash and Clay

EC with Orange Cut pad @1800 rpms X 2

Menz 106FF with green finish pad @1500 rpms

Re-Wash

Collinite IW845

DG Aquawax Wipe down

Tires treated with Z16

Exhausts tips polished with Flitz

Interior – Vacuumed, spot cleaned with folex, leather cleaned with Pristine Clean and treated with Z10. I forgot to take interior pics! Doh!

Fender Polished vs Door UnPolished:

Driver Rear Door During: As you can see this panel most of those scratches weren’t coming out.

Hood During: Left Side Polished with EC x1 and 106FF x1. I still wasn’t happy with the results.

Hood After: I polished the left side again with EC and 106FF and did the same on the right side. All finished with the hood now.

Looks beautiful Chris...I also have a problem with finishing under full sunlight.

Actually, I had pulled the car out to check work twice. Polishing was all done in the garage. I couldnt imagine having to polish in sunlight with 95 deg weather and high humidity!!! :(

Haha...I meant I finish later in the day and don't get to show off my work in full sunlight.

WOW the before shots are a nightmare! Did the client watch your work or just see it after? I'll bet he was quite pleased.

Actually he hasnt seen the car yet. We arranged for me to pick it up at his home and work on it. I returned the car to his garage but he wont be back right away. Im sending him the link of this thread so he knows what shape his car was really in.

Are you gonna wait till he sees the car in person before you send him the thread? I like it when they see it in person and give you a call.....

Holy Shi# Man!

That's a GREAT detail on black BMW paint in that condition. Holy.....!!!!!!

I had to look at your post 3 times. Wow!!!!!

I lied..... I'm now looking at it for a 4th time. Man, you really nailed this one.

Again, GREAT work. You should be very proud with those results.

Fabulous! Ive got a '95 M3, Black, coming sometime this week or early next. From what I hear, its pretty shoddy. I can only hope it comes out remotely close to this one. Great, GREAT job!
