Noob question: how long to leave NXT wax on before wiping/buffing off?

This is on a white 2002 Nissan, in the shade during a warm/hot SoCal day (temp around 80 where car is). My original thought was to leave it on for a couple of hours, but then the wax becomes really dried and crusty. I'm left wondering if it just breaks off the car when I wipe it, not leaving...

What kind of clearcoat to use-- lacquer or enamel based?

This is to go over some enamel-based candy apple red transparent paint (Testors 1605) that I'm using for my car's tail lights. A couple years ago, I used lacquer-based clearcoat for models (hobby store), and that didn't turn out so well after a year or so. This time, I went to the auto store...

Removing red paint from tail lights, hazing as a result

A few years ago, I painted the amber portion of my tail lights red to get the all-red look from the rear. It looked good, but then the red paint began to look really dull. Instead of going through the trouble of repainting it, I decided to strip the red paint to go back to the original look...

A couple questions on using clay

I'm a rookie at detailing and tried using clay for the first time this morning, in 60-65 degree weather (cloudy). The first problem I had is that the clay is firmer than I thought, and I had some trouble getting it perfectly flat. Should I try using a flat surface to mash it against to...

How to de-grease underside of an old car?

I was under my old car changing the oil and kept on noticing all the dried and caked oil that had gathered from past (years old) leaks. I tried wiping some of it off with a rag, but a lot of the stains are stubborn. I want to clean it mostly off not just so it looks better, but so I can...

How do I remove Lexol residue from leather seats?

I'm having some difficulty applying Leatherique Rejuvinator Oil due to my previous application of Lexol. It seems that the Lexol has left a very thin film over the leather that's preventing the absorption of the RO. Is there something I can use to get rid of this residue? Thanks.

How long do I leave the Leatherique Rejuv Oil in the seats? (long)

I got ahold of some Leatherique and have coated the black seats of my 1989 BMW 325is with the Rejuvinator Oil. (Un)fortunately, these seats don't have a lot of seams for the oil to permeate into. It's mostly large sheets of leather with a some stitches running through them only for decoration...

Does anybody have any experience dyeing floormats?

My old BMW 3 series has been without floormats for a while now so I finally bought a used set online. The seller called it an "interesting green color", but for $1 and $10 shipping, I figured "why not?" Besides, the pictures didn't make them look THAT green. They came today. They're...

Is Lexol okay to use on leather jackets?

I have a leather jacket that's in pretty good condition, but can get a little dry between I cleanings. Right now I have a cleaner/conditioner in one that I got at Wilson's Leather, but I'm not too happy about its performance. Do you think Lexol pH is okay to use? I don't know how to describle...

    Leather: Zaino or Leatherique?

I've used Lexol on my car's black leather seats and don't really like the wax-like film it leaves over the surface. My seats are pretty hard (not "cardboard" hard, but stiff enough so that if you push on it, it doesn't crinkle like soft leather does), and the Lexol didn't do much to change that...

Cheapest place to buy Zaino Z10?

All I want is one bottle of Z10. That's it. I know it can't be bought at AutoZone and Pep boys, but is the internet the only option I have? If so, does any place have cheap shipping? The product is $10.95 from the Zaino website (reasonable), but shipping is an add'l $8.95 (not reasonable for one...

How to get rid of scuff-like scratches on white plastic bumper?

I picked my sister up from the airport, and when she put her luggage heavy luggage into my trunk, something scraped up against my rear plastic bumper (satin/pearl white). From certain angles (with sun), it's pretty nasty. The clearcoat is scratched up pretty good in a 2" x 3" patch. The surface...

Which is better to dry-- chamois or microfiber?

To drya car after washing it, chamois or microfiber drying cloths? They're both roughly the same amount of money (chamois a little more expensive, not much more) at the Autozone store.

How to remove scratches from radio display?

The radio/clock display in my 2002 Altima has all sorts of scratches on it. I never really paid attention to it until I found it hard to even see the display with the sun beating down on it with the glare and all the scratches on it. In the past, I simply wiped off the dust with my hand (doh!)...

Where can I find a detailer in my area? (LA area)

I posted this in the wrong forum before, so I'll repost it here. -------- 1989 BMW 3 series, repainted many years ago with a pretty poor paint job. I'm not looking for a perfect job like I've seen on this board, but just to make my car look nice. Exterior only. I live in Los Angeles (San...

Where can I find a detailer in my area?

I know some members here detail other people's cars for pay. I'm not looking for a perfect job like I've seen, but just to make my car look decent, but I don't have the energy or time to do this. I live in Los Angeles (San Gabriel area). If not, can I find them in the classified ads? Yellow...

Painted + clearcoated taillights... now dull. What to do?

About 9 months ago, I painted a small orange portion of my taillights with Testors candy apple red transparent paint and covered that with a spray-on clearcoat (can't remember brand). Everything was fine. Recently, however, that portion of the light has become quite dull. It as if there are...

    Rust on wheel weight

There's a good deal of rust on the balancing weight on one of my wheels. The wheels are aluminum/alloy, and they're fine-- but I think the weight is made of a different metal, and it's got a lot of rust on it. What can I use to clean it up? Thanks.

California Dry Blade vs. California Water Blade -- what's the difference?

I know the CWB has been discussed many times before, but I picked up the California Dry Blade at Walmart the other day, and I can't find it on this forum. It's made by the same company, but it's a bit smaller (11" instead of 12") and has a smaller handle. Other than that, it should be the...

Eagle 1's "Wax As-U-Dry"... any good

Yes, I'm looking for an easy way out here... I went to Pep Boys today to pick up the A2Z cleaner, and next to it was the Wax As-U-Dry product. Is this any good? I don't expect it to be as good as a good polish and wax, but is this worth anything at all? It sounds almost too good to be true...
