    Detailing Music

I consider myself a music lover, but why does virtually EVERY detailing video on You Tube have to use that same Euro-Disco-Club music like the opening scene from Blade? Blade Opening Sequence - YouTube I mean, what's with this? Why this music? OK, I got it off my chest. If you're putting up a...

    A Lesson in Humility

Although I am only a hobbyist, with a few paying customers, I believe I am pretty serious about learning this difficult craft and have been studying and practicing since 2002. I've always been amused when I see the certified pre-owned BMW commercials where the guy's wife says "You bought a new...

    Optimum No-Rinse V. Garry Dean's Juice?

I've done a quick search and I haven't seen a straight-up comparison between ONR and Garry Dean's Infinite Use Detailing Juice, which is about twice as expensive. Anyone used it yet? I'm a big fan of ONR and I have adopted some of Dean's multiple-towel techniques if the vehicle is on the...

    Using Adam's Polish Method

I've been studying detailing for about 10 years now and I'm always looking for better methods. I notice on Adam's site, he polishes using a more agressive polish and then, without removing the polish, he changes pads and moves to a finishing polish. Obviously, you need to try this on a small...

    Thank you PB 2.5!

What a morning! I get a call at 7:45 am that a towtruck damaged my 2010 MB GLK 350. Turns out, the towtruck was towing a vehicle away and the vehicle owner attacked the driver, causing the driver to hit a tree, which fell on my car. Do you believe it? Fortunately for me, the tree was dead...

    Extended Warranty?

I just purchased a 98 Mercedes ML320 and I was considering an extended warranty. For about $2500, I can purchase a pretty extensive 4-yr. warranty covering engine, transmission and most electrical stuff. Anyone have any experience either positive or negative with any of the providers? I was...

    2.5 Questions

Yo, Steve! I just ordered some 2 from PAC and they sent 2.5 by mistake. I've never used anything stronger than 1 and I needed a bit more bite. Should I bother to exchange it, or is 2.5 the shiz? Using with a PC with Griots orange pads or Megs white polishing pads. Can I go right from 2.5 to...

    Zaino made EZ

I've been using this quick technique for Zaino when I or a customer doesn't want to get overly fanatical and it's quick and works well: Work one panel at a time. QEW, clay, using S&W as a lube. If the panel really looks good, a quick spritz of 50/50 Isopropol/water, Z1/Z5. If you want...

    Vm + Upp

Just used VM for the first time - PC with a white polishing pad for just a bit of bite. Great shine and you just use it over everything -rubber, plastic, glass. Goes on and off like butter with great depth and gloss. I tried topping it with UPP and it was gorgeous. My camera wouldn't do...

    Fed Up With Durability

I love fooling around with various products, glazes, polishes, the latest and greatest and all, but i'm getting tired of going to wash my car a week later and having the water pool instead of beading. So far, only Zaino Z5 keeps beading week in, week out while the other products seem dead after...

    Prep advice needed

On my own car, i'll always wash, clay, polish and seal, but I also do some outside work and I need a product that will leave the finish as smooth as possible without clay. In other words, I want to wash, use the cleaner/prep product and then seal. I'm not looking for a 1-step product because...

    Grand Prix Detail

Woman on my block just got this new GP and asked me to detail it for her. The paint was horrible out of the dealer with a lot of defects and rail dust. I decided to go SSR1, clay and Z5. I think it came out great, although the weather was a bit too overcast to get real good pics.

    Chrome Wheels

I use A2Z on my clearcoated aluminum wheels and I know I can use it on chrome wheels too, but EO makes a cleaner just for chrome wheels as well. Is it more powerful or less powerful? What's the deal on cleaning chrome wheels? I know that once their clean and sealed there should be little need...

Why does everything have to be so phoney?

Just got a recent Autosport catalog and they show what is supposed to be a mother and daughter out in front of the house washing the family SUV with big smiles on their faces. Why does every damn thing have to be so freakin' PC? No woman on earth washes their own SUV - well maybe that's a bit...

    PVC sponges

Love those PVC sponges, but after I used one and washed it out it dried hard as a rock. It came right back to new after wetting it, but that means I can't use it for UPP, which requires a dry applicator. It that right? Do they lose their softness when dry once they're washed? I think that...

    Quick and Easy Problems?

Kind of a wierd post. I've been using Q&E for those in-between washes when i'm not doing the tires or wheel wells and this stuff is just great. I honestly have not noticed any additional marring of the clearcoat even on my dark blue paint. I use a black sheepswool mitt and a big grey drying...

    Q for PB

I'm going to do my brother's new black (of course!) Volvo S60. Prep was bad and it has quite a bit of spiderwebbing. He is not an enthusiast and the most he will do is perhaps a decent wash every couple of weeks. I was thinking of PP or SSR1 to remove the minor defects, but I was wondering if...

    Trim Staining Question

My brother just got his new Volvo S60, black of course. The prep work was atrocious and there was more marring in the paint than my 2 year old Jetta. Anyway, i'm planning a detail session on it and I know Poorboys stuff is very good at not staining trim, but what about other products? I was...
