    3M SMR over Zaino?

Spent quite some time getting rid of swirls: JPS anti-swirl measures But some are coming back. I have about 14 coats of Zaino Z5/Z2, and my question is this: Can I use some 3M SMR to sort of touch up, as long as I wash with Dawn afterwards to get the SMR oils off before putting more Z...

    Crosspost...high speed driving and bras...

Also posted in other forums, but... I have recently starting taking my 911 to the track. I put 3M Invinca-shield on the nose, headlight area, and front spoiler, and used the hood piece from the 2 piece bra that came with the car from PO. I also taped the edge of the bra down. Upon...

How avoid bra scratching for intermittent and high speed use?

I have recently starting taking my 911 to the track. I put 3M Invinca-shield on the nose, headlight area, and front spoiler, and used the hood piece from the 2 piece bra that came with the car from PO. I also taped the edge of the bra down. Upon removal, there were some microscratches...

Getting rid of swirls...here is what I did (longish)

I've been editing this as I'm doing more, so if interested, you can check it out again... UPDATE: Finally added some pics...sorry for the long download. FWIW, here is a recap of what I have been doing on my Midnight Blue Metallic (so blue it is sometimes black) 1995 Porsche 911 Cabriolet...

    Slight haze...

Used 3M PI-IIIMG yellow pad, followed by 3M SMR yellow pad, followed by 3M SMR white pad, all with PC. Left slight haze or dulling (but swirl free). I'm assuming when I QD, use Z, whatever, it will perk back up, but I'm putting Invincashield on the nose and can't put that stuff on there...

    ack...swirls proving tricky...thoughts?

Recap: Flawless finish, bodyshop buffed it w/o my permission. Rather than fight to have them fix (after all, they did it wrong in first place), bought a PC and some Lake Country pads. I first tried 3M SMR with white pad...didn't seem to do too much. Tried 3MSMR with Yellow pad...didn't...

    Using Zaino with Porter Cable

Can't quite figure out from search...do people put Zaino on with PC? I figure you still take off with m/f, but what is the thinking on applying with PC?

    New porter cable just arrived

I have been looking at the links and such, but now that I have it and turned it on...am I smoking crack, or would I really have to be an idiot to do damage to my car with this? Short of leaving it in the same place for 20 min or attaching sandpaper to it with superglue as the glaze, this...

Ok, biting the bullet and getting PC & Pads...am I looking at this right?

Problem: 911 Dark Midnight Blue Metallic, dumbass body shop introduced swirlmarks. Solution thus far: 3 applications of SMR dark by hand, 2 coats of Z5. Net net...95% better, but this board exists because that last 5% isn't good enough. New solution: Buying PC 7424 Kit (thanks Brad...

    Confirming right solution

Dumbass body shop took off 19 coats of Zaino and swirled up the whole car. I didn't really notice right away, as I did a bunch of travelling, but now that I see it...YIKES! I did a Dawn wash, and followed up with 2 coats of hand applied 3M SMR for dark cars. WAAAAY better, but still some...

    Renting a Porter Cable

Can you rent these things? Anyone know of someplace in San Francisco?

    Ack! They buffed it!

I have 19 coats of Zaino on my 911. I had some minor work done on it, and forgot to mention not to buff it...:angry Now, there are no swirl marks, but it does have those straight lines when the sun hits it that make it look machine buffed. :shocked Question is, do I have to strip down...

Black plastic panel over 911 engine bay

On the auto pop up spoiler, there is a black grating or vent that appears to be abs or some other sturdy but plasticy thinger. It is textured, not silky, and I don't want something coming off and dripping down my paint or into the engine bay (the vent is directly over the engine). I searched...

    Some corrosion on chrome wheels

The previous owner of my car didn't seem to take care of the wheels as much as I do. :angry Unfortunately, there are some spots where the chrome is flaking off. Is there any sort of coating I can put on to stop it from going further? It is about $250/wheel :shocked to get them rechromed, and...

    Wiper fluid

I tried to search, but search seems to be down. Plus, I figure someone will help out. What do you put in your wiper fluid that will help out getting the crap off the window when needed, but not take off my polish or make extra work for me the next time I wash the car? I don't...

Invica-shield when you are a detailing nut

I have a midnight blue metallic Porsche 911 (993) Cabriolet. Brand new Euro Turbo/S bumper (no bumperettes) and clear turn indicators...looks really nice. About a week after I had it, someone nicked it...I got lucky because the shop had to make a repair anyway from a mistake they made, so I...

What to do when it "mists" out

Ok, I have a 911 that I call a daily driver, but the reality is I hate to drive it in the rain. If it is for sure going to rain, I leave it at home. That is partially because I hate to get it dirty, partially because the drivers in San Francisco get freaked out and even more stupid in the...

    Cleaning logos

Did a search...couldn't seem to come up with the right combo to find what I needed, so here goes... How the heck do you clean around the car logos? "Carrera" is killing me with all those little closed loopies! Thoughts? :nixweiss
