    Overspray on windshield

Time to ask the Autopians. I'm having trouble removing overspray on the windshield of my wife's Tacoma. ( I'm 500 miles from the body shop that did the repair so returning to the shop is not an option.) I have used both Clay Magic Fine Grade Clay (blue) and Meguiars Body Shop Professional...

ONR + Meg's Ultimate Spray Wax or ONRWW

Which will give the better winter protection...Regular ONR followed by Meg's Ultimate Spray Wax or just ONR Wash and Wax? The extra step in applying the Spray Wax is not a concern. My trucks are presently protected with Meg's Ultimate Wax and both trucks are garaged when not being driven.

    3-D Technology Makes F-150 Paint Better (?)

Posting here because I'm not sure where else it fits. Many of us have had problems with factory paint. I wonder what you think of Ford's "better idea". 3-D Technology Makes F-150 Paint Better - PickupTrucks.com News I know I'll sure consider it when I buy my next vehicle. Just sayin'.

    ONR W&W on window glass?

Time to order more ONR. I'd really like to try ONR W&W. My question. Does it leave any residue on window glass...streaking, etc. ? Tom

    Opti-coat and repaints

Anyone have personal experience with repaints after applying Opti-coat? This is my last major hang up with using this product. Over the years I've had enough "not so good" body shop experiences without creating an additional potential problem.

    Optimum applicators for Opti-coat

I'm getting ready to place an order for Opti-coat 2.0 and am doing everything possible to make my first application of this product trouble free. I have read about several application techniques but have found no reports from those using either the Opti Pro Applicator or the Opti Pro Dual...

Applying Opti-Coat to hood only, sealant remainder of vehicle?

Because I believe the clear coat on my truck's hood may have been compromised by sanding/polishing (a long story), I'm considering applying Opti-Coat just to the hood and continue using my lsp of choice, Mequiar's Ultimate, on the remainder of the truck. After the Opti-Coat on the hood cures...

    Longevity and "look" of Opti-Coat

Several members of this forum were early adopters of Opti-Coat. I would very much appreciate your take on the longevity of Opti-Coat and its "look" as it ages. I have a white truck and I am most concerned about yellowing and/or hazing. Any comments about body work and repainting after the...

How much paint is too much?

Perhaps Ron or some other paint guy would answer this for me. I may have to have the hood on my Ram repainted because of a small clear coat burn. The burn is very small..1/16"X3/4" and because the truck is white it is darn hard to find. The whole hood has two coats of factory base coat and...

    Minor clearcoat burn

This is a short version of a question that I posted in the Body Shop forum below. Probably should have posted here for more traffic. There is a small scuff/burn (1/16"x3/4") through the clearcoat on the hood of my white 2012 Ram. I definitely do not at this time want the whole hood recleared...

    Possible clearcoat "oops"?

Background Information (long and wordy): I think that when my body shop was doing final correction on my truck's hood repair/repaint, the tech might have scuffed though the shop clearcoat. The scuff is about 3/4 inch long and about 1/8 inch wide. My truck is white and I only notice the scuff...

Possible small scuff through clear coat

I recently had the hood on my white Ram repainted. In the process of removing a paint nib, I'm quite sure that the tech "nipped" the clear on a curved surface. I've seen the tool that this shop uses for nib removal and I can see how this could have happened. The shop also corrected some "die...

Lake Country Variable Contact (VC) Pads?

I came across a set of 6-inch Lake Country Variable Contact Pads (cutting, polishing, waxing) that I bought when I first started using a Porter Cable 7424. These were the recommended pads at the time. Over the years I pretty much switched over to 6.5 inch Meg's pads. Anyone still using these...

Compounds for Megs Microfiber Cutting Discs

I notice that the Megs Microfiber Cutting Discs are used by many on this forum. I plan to order a couple of packs of five inch and three inch discs for my first gen 7424. Should I order the Megs Correction Compound too? I plan to use these discs rarely on my two trucks and Harleys...only for...

    "Micro" Orange Peel

I had another post about repair work done on my 2012 Ram that asked about PDR on a freshly painted hood. I went back to the shop and the owner said that he would bring in a PDR "master artist" to take out the slight "wave" that can still be seen. The shop owner does most of the PDR work at his...

Paintless dent repair after a repaint?

Got a small wavy depression in the hood of my Ram (aluminum hood) only noticeable under fluorescent lights and when I really am looking for it. Most folks would never see it. The hood was repainted about two weeks ago because it was damaged by an encounter with a deer. This small (really...

    Repainting at the assembly line?

I’m asking posting here because I know there are a couple of paint gurus who might be able to answer my questions. I recently had a deer "incident" with my Dodge Ram pickup that required hood and front end repair. Both the hood and one fender each had a small dent. Neither required...

    Quality dealer prep and detailing?

Quality dealer detailing and new car prep...does it exist? By this I mean does anyone know if there are new car dealers that actually do a near "concours" prep of new vehicles before delivery. Many cars (even high-end cars) leave the factory with paint nibs, a run or two, a panel with a bit...

    Dust nibs in factory paint

Any suggestions for removing dust nibs from factory clear coat/base coat?

    Autopia vs. Autopia

I'm a long time detail nut but have been out of the Autopia-Detail City loop for quite a while. I joined both forums in 2003. But because I use mostly Meg products I usually hang out over on that forum. So what is with the two "Autopia" forums? Tom
