I have some minor swirls/scratches on my 2001 BMW. I'd like to get the finish back to being new again. Is it okay to use a mild polish twice a year? Will it eventually wear the clear coat off the car after several years?

There seems to be a couple different schools of thought on this. Some say that polishes are harsh on the clear coat and that you should just use a product that fills them in (like Zaino).

I've read the how to section and it says to dry in a straight line (back and forth motion), does this also apply to washing?
