    Clear anodized vs. polished aluminum

What exactly would the differences be between clear anodized and polished aluminum? I am looking at sprucing up my engine bay with some nice Pi-Thon hose locks (www.pi-thon.com). I am assuming the polished is nice and shiny, while the clear anodized would have more of a matte finish to it...

    Chrome plating

A few questions here... 1. Anyone here in Maryland know of a good place to get things chrome plated near the Baltimore area? I am looking at getting my AC compressor housing, thermostat, and alternator housing chrome plated. 2. For parts that are not easily chromed (radiator cap, fuel rail...

    Hose diameters explained?

Can someone please exlpain to me what they mean when a hose has a diameter of -6AN, -4AN, etc.? I am looking to replace my fuel lines with stainless braided lines, but have no idea what size to order! I can take my calipers and measure my lines on the car, which will give me a size in inches...

    Cleaning the little parts

I am in the process of taking apart my engine and replacing parts (if I can find them) or trying to clean up old parts. Some of the parts have some scale, etc. on them (right now, I am looking at cleaning up the clips that hold my fuel injectors onto the fuel rail). Anyone know of a good way...

    Polishing plastic chrome?

What is the best way to polish the plastic type chrome pieces that are commonly found around windows (at least on early 90's cars)? Mine are fairly scratched up. I thought I have heard that you have to be careful not to use regular metal polish because it can mess up the plastic. I don't want...

    Clear anodized or polished?

What is the difference? I am assuming polished is nice and shiny, clear anodized is more of a satin aluminum look. I am wondering how hard polished hose clamps will be to keep clean? Clear anodized might be easier maintenance, but not as nice underhood bling. Anyone have any thoughts?

    Found some QEW locally..

Woohoo!! Found a camping store near my house that has QEW (although they only had the 16 oz. bottle in stock). Now, what is the best way to use it? I read GSR's thread from a couple of days ago detailing the Audi and BMW. I don't know what the two bucket method is that he used? I am assuming...

    Carpet fluffing

Any suggestions on how to fluff those areas of carpeting that are constantly under your heel? I pulled my driver's side mat out this morning, vacuumed it, and scrubbed it in the bathtub, then rinsed it real good. Finished up with using my Bissell LGM to suck out most of the water. The pile on...

    Eagle One Nano Wax

Anyone have experience with this? Think it would fill minor clearcoat pitting that would take too long (or might not be able to) polish out? Just a thought.

    Impact wrenches

Anyone have any suggestions or experience on impact wrenches? I am looking at cordless or corded models, not air driven models. I don't have an air compressor large enough for an air driven model (plus I have my Dad's old air one if I get a larger compressor someday). Saw a couple of models...

    Smooth black plastic mirrors

Well, I just got some new, in-the-box side view mirrors for my toy car (old ones were pretty scuffed up somehow). Anyway, I want to clean and protect them before I install them on the car so I can get into all of the nooks and crannies easier. Any thoughts on what to use? I was thinking PB's...

    Rinsing salt off?

Well, winter has finally come to Maryland. And with a dark blue car, the salt is very noticeable, and there is a lot of it. Is it a good idea to rinse the salt off about once a week at a self service car wash with the high pressure hose? Usually if the temps drop below freezing, the touchless...

    Clearcoat pits

I was just thinking after reading some posts here. The hood on my car seems to have a fair amount of pits in the clear coat. If you look along the hood, they are very evident. Wouldn't touching up a clear coat pit be similar to touching up a chip or scratch in the paint? could I buy some...

    Chrome vs. Stainless vs. Zinc

Well, I am going to be doing a little engine work over the winter time on my toy ride. I am playing around with replacing some of the visible bolts (valve cover bolts, etc.), assuming I can find the proper sizes. Anyway, anyone have any pros/cons with the different types of coatings? I want...

    Winter floor mats

Anyone know a good place on the web to get floor mats or a good brand of mats? I want something with a slight lip to hold any slush/water in the mat until I can dump it out. With black carpeting and black floor mats, I want to keep things a little cleaner this winter. Thanks.

    Another engine detailing question...

In my new Subaru's manual, it specifically states to never wash the engine. I am pretty sure this is just legal nonsense. One thing I have noticed its that there is an awful lot of plastic covers above and below the engine (the whole bottom of the engine is covered with a plastic pop outpanel...

    Storing aerosal products?

Ok, I took all of my PB stuff, waxes, polishes, etc. out of the garage last night since the temp was dropping to below freezing. What about my aerosal products? I have some CD2, Stoner's IG, etc. Can they stay in the garage? I don't have anywhere right now to put my waxes and don't want to...

    Heating the garage

Since I know a few of the people here use their garage regularly during the winter, I was wondering how you heat it? I have a small townhouse garage, just big enough to move around the car. I plan on doing some work under the hood on my weekend car, plus really giving it a good detailing to...

And the rest of the Poorboys Subaru...

Here are some shots of the rest of the Subaru (with the wheels on). I had washed, clayed, and PP'ed it awhile ago. Last week, I washed, PwC'ed, and applied a coat of EX. Added another coat of EX this weekend while I was cleaning the wheels. Might do some Natty's in a couple of weeks, but I...

    Poorboy's Subaru Wheel

Took off the front two wheels today. Washed them with Meg's Citri-Gel, followed with PB's Pro Polish, then EX, then topped with Wheel Wax. That should get them through the winter!!
