When you QD, how much product do you use?

I used to spray it on like I was doing windows; enough, but not LOTS. Now I find myself wettin' that sucker down but good, like it's dripping, running down the doors and fenders. I figure, ain't no dirt gonna resist MY killer spray! I'm really doing it because I now have GALLONS of QD...

    Chasing the "Grail" w/NXT

First; there's a reason that the Grail story is so old, but still familiar (nih!). The reason is that it is a universal human condition to strive for unattainable perfection. Second, I've been thinking about my rack of supplies, and thinking about how they would all become obsolete...

    Meguiar's Gold Class Wheel Cleaner

It's not "up for review", so here's my take on it. Shrug. Clean wheels. I tried it tonight on the wifemobile ('01 Malibu LS). It's a lot milder than the caustic (but effective) Eagle1 A2Z. Not that I'd spray it in my face, but it's not wicked like the A2Z. The instructions say to...

    The Medallion Twins

Or, does Tom ever leave a product on his car long enough to test its durability, or is he only going to tell us how it looks and how he found it to use (easy or hard)? (No. He will not leave a product on his car long enough to test its durability. He will only tell you how it looks and if he...

A few words about Collinite Marque d' Elegance

Brett K stopped by today, and we had a nice long meeting, agreeing about a lot of things Autopian. We shared some products; I gave him some Wheel Wax, Sonus Sonex Spritz and some Trim Shine, he gave me some Z12, an Erazor clay bar, and some Collinite Md'E. Now, if anyone can tell, I'm...

Meg's A1216 Cleaner Wax (consumer line)

Not bad, not bad at all. SUPER easy to use. Wipe on, let sit, wipe off. I found it to be less susceptible to streaking on the hood than other Meg's waxes and sealants. It is EXCEPTIONALLY slick, and has a very "satiny" appearance. As cleaner waxes go, it's pretty mild; here is the applicator...

    !!!!! Meguiar's Lab Sample "d"!!!!!

Go here. Look at pictures and read text. Discuss. This looks like the real thing. Tom

I'm thinking, I'm going to do the Crystal Guard thing this Sunday.

What the heck, y'know? I've read the threads, but I want to see for myself. I'm thinking it will look great... but, notice that I just used Meg's step 3 and it looked great. I think Turtle Wax would look great, if swirls are properly removed. What I want is to apply CG on October 12th, and have...

    Wheel Wax; after 3 weeks

It lasts about... 2 to 3 weeks. For the first week, it does repel brake dust very well; the second week, less so. After that, it seems no better or worse than anything else, or nothing at all. Too bad, I wanted to like it. It does look great, and I like the way it smells. But, I'd rather use...

Mini-review: Meguiar's Step 3 Deep Crystal Carnuba Wax

Y'know, it's not bad, not bad at all. You could do worse than this. The compromises are minor, and are of the "bubba-proofing" type, rather than the "quality" type. It's very thin, very liquid. I saturated a foam applicator and did one entire side of the car; another ounce did the other side...

Who knows what about a product called California Quickshine?

A product that seems to be being marketed pretty heavily at the moment. Search turns up nothing, neither here nor at DC. Tom

JR supercharger as a "beauty mod"

Yes, I wanted the power, but also I always thought that it is as much the look under the hood that I was always after. See what you think. I still have some hose- and wire routing and looming to clean up, btw. Before: After: Tom

    Boost!

Finally did the SC install today; amazingly, it bolted right on and worked perfectly, first shot. It's pushing about 8lbs of boost; we figure between 160 and170 at the rear wheels. It feels like I raised anchor, definitely. Tom

Paused at a crossroad in today's complete detailing: vote, what next?

I've APC'd, DACP'd, IP'd, FP'd. That's a routine that works for me, to get that glassy look. I'm now paused for an hour, to eat dinner. What should I do after dinner? 1) AIO and SG, topped with S100 tomorrow. I've had these a few months, never used them before. 2) My standard routine...

Observation on #40 (nothing earth shaking)

It has a nice smell to it. Most vinyl and rubber protectants smell industrial, #40 has an organic, leathery scent. Tom

WheelWax (initial impression, not a comprehensive review)

This product was recommended to my place of business by the American Racing Wheels rep, to protect aftermarket wheels from brake dust buildup, and from oxidation and pitting. Autopia has been lukewarm to WW, if "search" is to be trusted as thorough. It seems to be more highly regarded...

    What else, instead of Dawn?

What else would you use to strip all products off of your finish, in preparation for a new round? Tom

    1) Didn't wash my car for a week! 2) Did a #7/GC today. (an Autopian ramble)

It was like trying to quit smoking, I tell ya. 8 days, no wash, no CCD, no QD. I kept saying to myself, "It's just a car, dude. Let it go." I made it from Saturday last until today! Today, I decided to try the GC paste I've had sitting on the shelf. I've used the liquid in the past, but...

Results of New LS layering experiment (quick answer: it layers!) (Lots of pictures!)

Jinx1309 piqued my interest by using LS with a foam applicator and picking up no coloration on his pad; perhaps it was the pad? So, I have a bottle of NLS, a bottle of OLS, and new foam, terry, and mf applicators, and a red car, and a digital camera, and an hour to kill. What's an Autopian to...

    Shake Well, part 2

I was at the Meguiar's booth at Corvettes Carlise, talking to one of the Meg's field reps; he pointed this out to me. On the side of Meg's #26 paste can, the first step in the "instructions for use": "Shake Well". Tom
