NXT/GC/NXT; this came out pretty good...

I had to spend the day in the garage sucking water out with the shop vac; we had a couple inches of rain over top of a foot of snow. So, I was in the garage, and the car was there, and the wax was there... So I had a fresh coat of NXT, and I did a coat of Gold Class paste, and 8 hours later I...

Interesting result putting GC over NXT

I thought that, since GC has some cleaning properties, that it would remove NXT. However, what happened was that it felt like the CG applicator was "skating" over the NXT. Attached is a picture of the towel I used to remove the GC; remember, GC itself is peach-colored. I'm used to getting...

I'm thinking, Gold Class then NXT....

I'm thinking that might be very sublime and beautiful. So far I've found that I like the look of NXT better than NXT with Pinnacle Souveran Paste(!) over top, which leads me to conclude that NXT is the final coat of anything that it would combine with, since up until now Souv has been my...

Collecting NXT Spray Wax experience, comments, and suggestions here!

Hey, they're kinda scattered all over at the moment. I'm writing a bit about my experience, but please don't limit your comments to addressing what I've written. If you want to do so, great, but I'd like to read what you guys have experienced as well. I'm a little confused by NXT Spray...

    NXT over Souv Paste.

I do believe that NXT applied with the PC and removed with the PC and a MF bonnet 1) will remove the Souveran, and 2) looks better than Souveran. There is a difference in the light, which makes the car look a bit different; but, in the paint, it is deeper, darker, more alive, with the NXT alone.

    Souveran Paste over NXT....

I had a hard time getting the light right this morning.

Souv Paste over NXT definitely does not sock.

I'll let it sit overnight and take some pictures tomorrow. If anything, upon first application I'd say that Souveran paste lightens the ruby red darnkess of NXT, but I'll wait until tomorrow. It's hard to imagine Souv looking bad, though. Tom

QEW tutorial (NOT 56k friendly) PART 1

Written as a compendium from searches I made while looking for advice on how to use it; I decided to put it all in one place, for easy reference for those searching. If you are an Autopian, you are fanatic about not introducing swirls and scratches and tracers into your paint. This was a...

    Plush Microfibers from Patrick/Excel Detail

I got a chance to use the towels from Patrick this evening. These are very nice, very close to the dark green "cobra" towels I got from I don't remember where. They are a definite step up from the Viking towels that come in 2-packs and 3-packs from KMart and WalMart, towels that I am very...

    NXT is like...

I think, it looks like Meguiar's Gold Class Wax with BOATLOADS more shine and reflection. It is a hard-shine look, like Zaino or Klasse, rather than a soft-shine look, like Souveran or #26. Since everyone is saying let it set for a day or so, I'll let it set for a day or so, and write some more...

LOL, te quarter car wash and 20* weather

I did it last night; there's a blizzard here today, 12 to 20 inches predicted by mid-day Monday. I took my 5 gallon can of hot water, 2 buckets, my wash mitts, my car wash concentrate, and my Water Blade and ww drying towel, and a pocketful of quarters. It worked really well, right up...

A postulation on product choices. (long)

I think about stuff all the time, and I kinda thought of this, and I want to know if others might or might not agree. I decided to spend the last year learning how to use the Meguiar's products. I had a couple reasons for this. First, they are readily available. Second, IMO they form a "base...

    Zaino Z-whatever glass polish

Brett K gave me a couple ounces of this stuff, and I like it a lot! My dad's Trailblazer had something hazing the window, something that Griot's window cleaner wouldn't get off. Z-toothpaste smell attacked it quickly and removed it completely. It's a gritty abrasive that breaks down VERY quickly...

Black Magic vinyl and rubber protectant

I used it on my dad's Trailblazer today, yards and yards of cladding on that sucker. Decent enough stuff. Satiny. It looks good. Tom

Quick one hour poll: #81/Medallion or AIO/SG?

My dad's Trailblazer. Pewter. Last done in May. He's taking it to Florida after Xmas. I'm about to start washing, I'll do the interior and clay and check back here. I'm leaning toward the Klasse. Tom

Because sometimes you NEED terry towels

At KMart, Martha's 4 star hand towels; $4.99 each. They SAY 100% cotton, and pass the CD test. At Bed Bath and Beyond, Fieldcrest Cannon hand towels, 6 for $9.99; they also SAY 100% cotton. They look like "seconds", not as plush as Martha's, but well above Viking/Baja del Sol/Detailers Choice...

Did a polish for a friend, and good things come my way!

My friend Steve had a problem: paraphrased, "Tom, I tried applying and removing Gold Class wax with an orbital buffer and a wool pad, and it made a mess, it didn't work well and left fine hairs all over the place. Your car looks great, how did you do it?" Of course, I could see the big Sears 10"...

Which Meguiar's products are comparable to IP and FP?

I'm thinking, 82 and 80, both PC-safe. Or maybe #9 and Step 1? Not that I'm a Meguiar's purist, not yet; I still love the Menzernas, but it would be nice to be able to get substitutes locally, in a pinch. Tom

A product named "WOW: The Ultimate Detail Spray"

I went to the supply store today, looking for some Final Detail. They didn't have any, but the counterman showed me something called "WOW", and, since you all know that I'm a sucker, you now what I did. (Remember my tag line, "I blew $10 so that you don't have to"?) WOW I used it on my...
