    Spring Cleaning!

Finally! I used the 80 degree weather day here to take the opportunity to get rid of the last reminents of winter. I cleaned the blown in debris and leaves from underneath the work benches, scrubbed the floors, put away all the accumulated non-car items and hoisted the snow blower through the...

    Mini gets a brake job!

The Mini was at the track last week and I had installed Ferodo race pads for the event. In the process of switching back to the EBC Green street pads (and cleaning off gobs of black embedded brake dust) I decided to paint the calipers silver and the hubs black. I removed the pads and hung the...

    Mini hits the track!

Took the Mini Cooper S to the track for the first time this past weekend at Gateway International Raceway in St. Louis. It was a blast. Despite a pretty gloomy and wet weekend I did manage to get a couple dry and 'really' fast runs in. :) My only mods so far are a Alta 15% reduced...

    Wheel Storage DIY project

I tend to have a lot of extra wheels lying around and since I just purchased a new wheel and tire set for the Mini I needed to construct another wheel holder. I made an identical one a couple years ago and it has worked extremely well. It takes up little room and is easily movable. I thought...

Mini gets new shoes and more!

I installed new wheels and tires today. For summer and the track I will be using my new Flik Wasp wheels and Yoko AVS ES 100 tires. Stock tires are 205's, I upsized to 215/45-17. The wheels and the tires combined save me over 7lbs "a corner" over the stock wheels and all-season tires. It's a...

    Mini catches big air!

Air intake that is. The Alta air intake is good for 9hp. I also drilled the airbox so it pulls only cold air in. Not so visible is an Alta 15% reduced size supercharger pulley that is good for 18hp. Just these two mods give me an increase of around 17% more hp. It's a very noticable...

    The Mini Exploded!!!

Just kidding. But it looks like it did! I took the front half of the Mini apart so I could install a factory Aero Kit grill. The upper wasn't too hard but the lower took all day. It took much customization plus a lot of disassembly. Here is a before picture: And here is an after:

Sports car collection nearly burns in fire!

This is a scan of yesterdays St. Louis Post Dispatch newspaper. A Jaguar Club member's storage warehouse burned with his collection inside. :( No word yet on how bad things are.

    Starting to Mod the MINI....

Last week I installed Xpel to the front of the MINI. This weekend I installed factory Aero sideskirts. I also had a 35% tint professionally installed. (I'm not up to that!) See below for before and after pics of the side skirts. I think it gives it a lower, racier look. If that can be said for...

    New Toy!

Brought home a new toy last night. We drove to Indianapolis from St. Louis in our one way rented Mercury (not a bad ride, actually) and came back in a '04 MINI Cooper S. Can't wait for the weekend....the "mods" begin! :D Here we are at the dealership. I taped up the front end to...

2003 U.S. Grand Prix and Car Show

This thread could have gone several places but the link will take you to a number of pics to some cool owners cars (so I put it here), some Porsche Cup race cars and of course, Formula 1 race cars. I went to the GP race at Indy and got to park on the actual back straight of the Indy 500 race...

    Mr. Frog's Wild Ride!

Beware! Animals were harmed in the following photos! I washed my car late this morning and found a "detailing issue". I had the Audi S4 parked outside early this morning. My wife and decided to take an early drive and eat breakfast out somewhere. I heard a faint "Yeeeeehaaaaaa" but...

    Custom Badging...

In contrast to another thread in this forum, I just added a badge!:D Mine, however, only shows above 75 mph! Actually, I commissioned a custom silver decal in the Porsche font and applied it to the large black area of my moveable spoiler on the Carrera. I hated the big blank wall. I did...

    Great Zaino story!

I was at a Tips and Tricks Detailing event and this guy had a Porsche Carrera that was a few years newer than mine but the exact same color-Polar Silver. I was busy and didn't talk to him for a long while but noticed during the day he kept hanging around my car eyballing it really close. Then he...

    Who is this woman?

The Jaguar Tips and Tricks Detailing event was held this weekend at the local Jaguar dealership. In a wonderful atmosphere, covered detailing area, professional wash bays and with a $150,000 Aston Martin a few feet away as inspiration, we all had fun detailing our cars. (Even an enemy Porsche...

    New Garage Art!

I got three new banners for my garage. Two banners, the old Triumph and MG/Austin Healey flags were the original flags that flew over the start/finish line at Mid America Raceway in Missouri. The raceway, once a mecca for sportscar racing, closed in the 1960's. A friend, whose car I detailed...

    Baby got new shoes!

I got new shoes for the Carrera C4S the other day. Not wanting the tire dealer to touch the car itself or handle the alloy lug nuts, I took all the 4 wheels off and carried them to the shop. On the way home I brought back the old monster rear tires to keep as spares. So I ended up with 6 wheels...

    BMW/Porsche Club Detailing Event

The St. Louis BMW Club and Porsche Club Detailing Tips and Tricks event was held this Saturday. We talked about many aspects of detailing including washing techniques and tools, claying, buffing and swirl removal and interior-exterior detailing. I had hundreds of products for participants...

    Busy car show weekend!

I had two car shows this weekend. I was in Effingham, IL Saturday for the Porschefest. It was normally two hours outside St. Louis so we did a lot of bug cleaning once we got there. (We travelled a LOT faster than the law would like us to.) The silly balloons signify finalists for awards...

    St. Louis European Auto Show

The weather couldn't have been more beautiful and the 16th Annual European Auto Show attracted over 150 examples of fine cars from across the sea. Check out the link and see such cars as this 1930 Mercedes or a Hispano Suiza or a Bandini race car. Or the Lotus Elise, not yet legal for the...
