    Getting Race-Ready

After three amd a half years, I'm finally dropping a couple of bucks on my Grand Prix. It's just a GT, so I'll most likely be limited to hitting the 14's in the quarter-mile. On Friday, I have to attend Intense Drag Days V, so the weekend was spent working on my car. Higher Ratio-Rockers...

More great ideas from car care forums...

I found this little post in the GP forum: I have a 5 year old black GP, and over the past few months I've been neglecting the weekly washes I've been doing for years. The car accumulated horrible hard water stains that would not come off even after several washings. I experimented with Turtle...

    Dawn Wash Power

The Dawn Wash has been referenced for years for removing wax. Popularized by Sal Zaino, it is suppossed to remove all prior wax. The Dawn Wash debate has gone back and forth over previous discussions regardiing if it is necessary or not.. That is not the subject of this thread. I am curios...

    Psycho Garage Door

My garage door has gone haywire. It is opening and closing at random. A few weeks ago, I awoke to find it was open. I just figured I had forgotten to close it. It happened one more time. No thought given. My wired remote also was functioning intermittently. Yesterday, I ran a couple...

    Frozen QEW

My bottle of QEW froze sitting on my front porch and the bottle broke. Does freezing affect QEW at all? I'm hoping to let it thaw and capture it into another container.

    New Rims! Big Pic Warning

I recently got my hands on a very unique set of rims. They are 18x8 and originally made for the Buick Regal GSX by Kosei. They were a wheel used by SLP for a photoshoot and that's it. They never saw the highway. They had some minor scratches on the outer chrome from the wheel mounting...

    QEW Slushie

I ordered a gallon of QEW over the weekend since they had $1 shipping. UPS left it on my porch when they delivered it at 11:00 am. I didn't see it until last night when I got home. It was 16 degrees outside, so the QEW had partiallially frozen and ruptured. Good thing Camping World wrapped...

    Shining up basecoat?

My father in-law did all the paint work on her MGB. Unforutnaely, he did not spray clear under the hood, trunk or the doorjambs. I don't think it's single stage as I've tried cleaner wax to shine it up a bit. Is there something I can do short of spraying clear?

    Concrete resurfacing?

The concrete floor in my garage has several marks from where salt has caused little craters in the floor. As part of my garage project, I would like to resurface it and coat the floor in UCoat-it. Do the Quickcrete type concrete resurfacing products work well enought hold up to a garage...

    Wisdom from other forums

I try and help out with knowledge when I can, but sometimes it's a bit tough. The question posed was "What towels do you use to dry your car?" My answer was a waffle weave MF towel. This was another response: For waxing I use old soft t-shirts, towels, and occasionaly I use cheese...

    Scratches on my roof!

I was filling up with gas tonight and I noticed that I have about a 1 square foot area where some inconsiderate person (polite word) put a package, box etc. and then dragged it off my roof!!! I just washed my car yesterday and those marks weren't there. I finished up my holiday shopping...

    Snowblower Waxing

I just bought a new Toro Snow Destroyer Self Propelled Death Machine. Since I am Autopian, I will be giving it a good waxing/sealing/etc as soon as it gets delivered. I'm thinking about Klasse AIO topped by several layers of SG. I'm hoping the wax will help move the snow through the machine a...

Another fun thread from another forum

I found this beauty while cruising the detailing forum in my car club's board. Carnauba has nothing to do with the shine on your vehicle. Carnauba is for protection. The shine is from oil additives. Most common is silicone oil. Then parafin oil and banana oil in natural waxes. Oils...

    Compliment from the wife today

I let the wife drive my car today so I could detail and get the Saturn ready for the trip to NC tomorrow. When she got home she told me: "You car glows. I got out of work, saw it in the parking lot and said 'wow'." Now, if I could only get here to use the PC....

    Unadvertised S&W Feature!

I've discovered an unadvertised feature of Poorboy's Spray and Wipe...it produces rain! The past two times I used S&W, it rained within a matter of hours, requiring me to drive in the rain and wet roads the next morning. Last night, I sat in the Holiday Inn parking lot in Saratoga Springs...

    The Downside to detailing

I introduced my father in-law to Zaino last year when I detailed his 97 Cherokee over the summer. Since then, he’s kept on top of the Jeep and now is trying to sell it. He has about 150,000 miles on the truck since he’s in sales. The truck, with the help of me, looks great. In...

    Something stronger than Lexol

A buddy of mine has a 98 GP and says he needs something 'stronger' than Lexol for his leather. Apparently, it has gotten 'a little hards and lost its shape'. Is this something Leatherique would be suited for?

    Greatest wax ever found!

I had a wedding to attend in Ohio over the weekend and lucky for me, the Hot Rod Super Nationals was in town. Since we had time to kill, the papa in-law and I headed down to the fairgrounds to check out the cars. My freshly washed car got to park in the mud, so I was obviously thrilled...

    Interesting post from another forum

I found this thread on the Grand Prix forums. The topic involved topping Zaino with a wax. Here is one person's reply: I dont use wax, I dont believe in it. Ive been building street rods since I got out of school, and I would never use wax on a $50,000 paint job. At our shop, (and at most...

    VM+EX+S100 = I need mental help

Check out that shine! I didn't get a chance to wax until I used it on my lawn. I really wanted to try out the EX I just bought. I'm thinking I should've waxed under the deck to get the grass from sticking too.
