Stripping down old Astro work van and eventual repaint for a friend.

The old van has a lot of miles left in it, a buddy needs it for his business. It is typical of all GM, Ford's, Chrysler's, Toyota's of the era. No surface primers were put over the ecoat, not enough clearcoat film build, so most blue, grey and white models have either peeled by now or in the...

Grumpy finally figured out how to post pics of his cars, etc-YEAH!

It's a cold rainy day here in Iowa, so took the time for an old fart to figure out this computer thingy. I finally got some photo's of some of my past and present cars, bikes, shop, etc in the gallery. YEAH, the old fart is still alive and his brain still works sometimes. Grumpy

Cool rainy Sunday, no races on TV-time to--

One of those days, and not in the mood to play in Grumpy's Garage. So, guess I will fire up one of the old vehicles and go visit some local libation establishments. Always interesting to hear the town drunks rant about how they can't get a job, when most of the plants and such are crying for...

Important---Posting a question about your concern with your vehicle

There are many on this forum that are "real" experts, with years of experience regarding what to do, how to do it, etc. However, most posts asking information are missing a VERY IMPORTANT piece of REQUIRED information. "WHAT IS THE VEHICLE, HOW OLD IS THE VEHICLE, WHAT COLOR IS THE...

Carnuba wax, everyone wants to have it for the "depth", but don't like things.

Fact, carnuba flakes require at least 182 F to melt into a liquid. Then, once that is done, have to introduce some solvent and other chemicals to get it to work. Want some carnuba flakes? I know where you can get them to play with, small amounts. Let me know, I will tell you. Grumpy

Complete OEM Ford A/C for 65 Mustang

Have an old friend who is selling a "complete" air conditioner unit, everything that is needed for any 1965 Mustang, Falcon or Fairlane 289 V8. VERY RARE! Impossible to get these original, let alone chase down all the parts to put one together. It worked fine when he removed it several years...

Past cars and other stuff photos

Rather than fight my way through learning, frustration, etc to put up pics of some of my cars from my past, a few other things, I put them on my FaceBook page. If you want to see some old iron, it's Ron Ketcham on FaceBook. Grumpy

Old man full filling a long time dream

Of course to you younger ones, it may not be a "dream", but a "nightmare". Looks like I am gaining ownership of a car I have wanted for 19 years. It's styling is "iffy" at best, it's got some things that go broke in the night, it is not an exotic European machine. But, it was one of the most...

Tire Dressing Thread, can we get the photo's taken away?

Kracky, I can't deal with the way those photos in the latter part of the thread just brings my computer to a stop! Is it possible for moderator to remove those or something? Sorry, but there is just so much most of us can handle. Now you know why they call me Grumpy Grumpy

    Barret/Jackson Las Vegas

Anyone of you gearheads/petroheads watching this years auction from Vegas? Some show on camera to be really nice, until one with a trained eye looks close when the close up camera on the stage hits some areas. Still, ain't it hoot! Wish I still had some big bucks! You got to have "big bucks"...

New compressor is up and running!

Got the big Puma in place today, ran the 220v from the box to it, and fired it up. At last, there is enough CFM and line pressure to run the blast cabinet, air tools, etc without having a big drop off and inability to quickly complete whatever job I am on. The little 21 gal, 110v with 4.5 CFM...

Gotta get a bigger boat (to paraphase Jaws)

When I retired, brought all my tools, boxes etc to the new retirement house. Finished out the car and half garage, more electric, paver floor, insulation, gas heat, lots of good lighting, etc. At last I could go back to playing with all my tools, etc. Restoring things is a gas for me, and I...

Ford GT40 Who painted, what material answered

Got a call from Hughes, he stated that David is correct. Saleen's Special Vehicle Production in Troy, Mi. did a lot of the assembly work and applied the paint finish. John can't recall for sure, but thinks the material was supplied by PPG. Grumpy

Top Gear--BBCA vs History Channel shows

OK, which do you perfer to watch? The History Channel's version or the original Top Gear from the BBC America? Do you have any input on the hosts, the production of the two shows. The subject matter of the two shows? This could get interesting for gear heads. Grumpy

Been a lot of years, however, here I am.

As the older members are aware, I was banned for years by the previous operator of the site. They did not approve of anyone who mentioned anything they did not agree with. Well, now I have been asked to return and even though I am retired from Automotive International, I still do some...

The shuttle will be here in a few minutes, just wanted to let you know that I won't be answering any posts until then. The trip is going to be a bear, but somebody has to do it. What a time to go to the Pacific Rim, and some of the countries I have to visit. Ketch :up :(

Finally got my butt off a plane and out of the car for a couple of days and got with Ms. Beth (my right arm, left leg and heart and soul of the tech dept) and have updated the OEM Paint Process section in the Tech Tips Section of our web site. There were several that were not coming up and...

If you have to fly,(most know that I spend over 150 days a year going someplace), here is how to speed up your checkin with the new security. One, show your passport as identification(they don't have much faith in drivers license's and other photo identification these days) and if you have a...
