    Lake Country CCS pads...something odd...

Several years ago I bought some LC CCS pads. I got some orange and white pads and couple of the dual layer pads. I was out in the garage organizing some stuff and found that the 2 white pads were deteriorating. The foam was just falling apart. All the other pads look fine. No problem with them.

    3M sandpaper is killing it...

I`m currently getting my car repainted. I was down at my friend`s body shop. He wanted to get some 3000 grit 3M sandpaper for wetsanding. The counter guy at the paint store convinced him to try the 3M foam sandpaper on his air powered DA. He got some 3000, 5000 and 8000. This stuff is absolutely...

Warning: the downside of a coating type product...

Several years ago, a coating product hit the market. It was sold on TV, internet and even in some stores. For kicks, I decided to try it on a set of wheels. Seemed to work pretty good. Last year I noticed a cloudy look on one of the wheels. My first thought was the clearcoat was going bad. Now...

    Leather Therapy leather restorer...

The leather in my TA is approaching 20 years old. It was never a high grade leather like King Ranch or soft automotive leather. Maybe that isn`t such a bad thing, it`s held up surprisingly well. But it is hard as cardboard. I`ve tried various leather cleaners and conditioners and they work OK. I...

    My interior leather hack...

Maybe I`m late to the party on this, I`m not sure. I`ve tried using a MF towel to apply leather dressings but that ends up wasting a fair amount of product. I`ve also used a quality paper towel such a Viva but that leaves some lint on stitches. I decided to try a plastic ended tire dressing...

    Old schoo exteriorl glass cleaning...

I stumbled on a video on youtube by Sweet Project Cars. Anyhow, he uses Lava bar soap and 99% ISO to removed water spots from exterior glass. I haven`t tried it yet as we are in the middle of snow, rain and freezing rain season. They also posted a good video on refinishing leather seats.

    17 year update....

Some may remember and some may not care but I used to post here frequently, back in the days when a single swirl was cause to bust out the Porter Cable and polishing compound. I quit when I discovered that I could see that the clearcoat was being polished smooth in places. About 10 years ago, I...

    Issue with Collinite 845...

I'm not knocking Collinite 845 by any means. It's a solid product that's been around for ages. Over the last several years I've used various Zaino products on clearcoated wheels and brake dust has been easy to remove. On my F150 with chrome wheels, I grabbed the Collinite 845 to see how well it...

    Meguairs Paint Protect review...

Megs Paint Protect sitting on the shelf at WalMart finally got the best of me. After reading that it works on plastic trim, I figured for $11 why the heck not. My first attempt was using it on faded black cowl trim. I applied it to a paper towel and then wiped it on. Soon the paper towel became...

Turtle Wax rinseless wash and wax...

Saw the TW Rinseless wash at WalMart and couldn't resist the curiosity factor, especially since no one here has tested it. First thing I did was to sniff the product. It smells similar to Optimum V2 but a bit less strong and it's also colored blue. The TW calls for 4 ounces to 2 gallons of...

6 inch pads at Harbor Freight...

Stopped by Harbor Freight and found some 6 inch pads with 5 inch velcro on the back for $3.99 each. I bought a black finishing pad and a blue polishing pad. Initial impression is that these are pretty good quality pads(foam didn't feel cheap) providing the velcro doesn't separate.

Megs 5 inch miocrofiber buffing pads...

I found these new Megs pads in the auto section at Walmart so my curiosity got the best of me and I bought 2. I tried them with Megs UC. I like the UC because it isn't too abrasive but works. The microfiber pads seem to soak up lots of product. I could only work a small section and I'd have to...

Off the wall detailing tips and ideas...

This one is a bit "rice". Some guys are using the aerosol version of PlastiDip on plastic trim/fiberglass pieces such as spoilers, splitters, roll bars, etc. The nice thing about PlastiDip is that it isn't quite permanant. If you don't like the texture you can remove it by peeling it off. This...

    viewing paint defects...

After polishing a vehicle it looks nearly perfect. The lights don't reveal any swirls so it's out the door. Most of the pictures I see posted are shot from several feet away or at a 90 degree angle to the car. Looking directly down at a 90 degree angle most polished paint looks great-sure you'll...

    Polishing flat black?

Has anyone polished or compounded flat black paint? What was the end result? I tried painting a hardtop and ended up with unevenness and splotchiness and I'm wondering if compounding may even the gloss or just compound the problem:hairpull

    Ultimate compound and roatary use...

Tried this combo out today with a wool pad. UC cuts pretty well but you do need to increase the speed. I found that speed 4 of 6 worked the best. I didn't have sling issues or dusting issues. I was using an older thin version with a sprayer. One thing I did learn today is that UC on an orange...

On a lighter note: detailing with womens unmentionables...

Well, I read this on another site and figured I'd mention it here. A guy claims that bunched up womens stockings or pantyhose works great to removed bugs from the front valance. Basically bunch it up and dip it in a soapy bucket and rub across the paint. So guys you now have an excuse if your...
