What would you use to make rough-cast aluminium look good?

When you detail an engine bay, what do use to make the rough-cast aluminium heads look good after cleaning them? I was thinking applying some silicone based dressing may make it look a bit less matt. Would that cause any issues? Has anyone found something more successful? :nixweiss

Anyone know about 60's vintage metallic paint?

I just had a call about polishing a '63 T-bird which still has the original metal paint, according to the new owner. The paint is a gold colour called champaigne. He describes it as being completely dull with no metal flake visible. Obviously, it's not clear coated. Does anyone have any...

Bufferman, are different LC white pads same foam?

bufferman, I have LC white VC pads and LC white DA pads. The foam *seems* to be different grades. Are they the same, or close but different? If different, which has more cut? Your website shows the white DA pad closer to the orange pad on the aggression scale. Or is that formating...

When did MB start using CeramiClear?

I might be polishing a MB 2001 CLK55 AMG soon. In order to prepare my arsenal, I wondered when MB started using Ceramiclear. How hard was the C/C before Ceramiclear? Any ideas? :nixweiss

Has anyone tried this Eagle One ProDetail line?

I found this site which sells everything from Cyclos to extractors, garage floor covers to pads. Anyway, I've never seen Eagle Ones ProDetailer products before. EO make decent OTC stuff, so I was wondering if anyone's tried the professional line, and what they think of it. SOAPS AND...

Looking for a polish whose abrasiveness is between #83 and IP

I'm hoping someone can assist me with this dillema. I'm hunting for a polish that isn't as abrasive as #83, but stronger than IP. I mainly use IP but sometimes it doesn't cut it (pardon the pun) with heavier scratches. I have to make too many passes. I love the way IP works (except the...

Why you may want to try Autoglym duo (pics)

Why you may want to try the Autoglym duo, Super Resin Polish (SRP) and Extra Gloss Protection (EGP)! This Jag XJ150 was in a terrible state - scratches, swirling, scoured surface. Several days of Menzerna duo and several pads later, the surface was excellent. How it looked before...

    AIO before IP ok?

I'm due to do a badly oxidised red car this week. From reading all the posts I selected AIO as product of choice for the oxidation. I need to know if its ok to remove the oxidation with AIO, then remove swirls/marring with IP, rather than the reverse. My thinking is that the oxidation will...

Can #7 be topped with NXT? Any better topper?

I'm in the process of finishing a very long, tedious paint restoration using my PC. Jag XK150 classic...dark blue, clear coat...such a complex body shape :scared More curves than Marylin Monroe! Anyway, soon to be applying #7 to the finish and want to seal it with something. My choices...

Rate Autoglym polishes poll and review - your comments please

Autoglym is quite popular in many countries (for reasons of distribution (I assume) not as popular in the US and hence not spoken much in this forum), and I'd like to get more info from more experienced users of various products. I'd like to get your input and experience about how you rate...

Buffing oxidized white single stage with PC

I've been trying to revive the paint on a friends '89 Toyota Cressida (name in Australia). What a mongrel of a job! It's a single stage (no clear coat) white paint that was oxidized to a chalky finish (1 on a 1-10 gloss scale). I read that white single stage paint has Titanium Oxide as its...
