topping CSL

My car has an encounter with a deer and everything from the doors forward was painted. I am about to reapply CSL to the new paint. I bought EXO as well. Can I apply EXO on top of the ceramic coating that has been on the car for about a year now? I was planning to add CSL to the new paint and then top the entire car with EXO but I don't want any bonding issues.

From Gtechniq: "If you are applying over CSL, EXOv5 can either be applied straight away starting the process at the same place you did with CSL. For best results wait two hours before applying to let the product flash-off longer."

They don't say anything specifically about not being able to apply EXO over CSL after any period of time.

If I was going to re-apply I would want to do a full decon and even a prep-polish to make sure the surface is clean and ready to receive EXO. After a year I have to imagine that the paint has bonded contaminate as well as other things from washing and spray wax / detailers. Putting EXO over that will not give you the results you might want.

Saying all that if I was to do this I would probably want to redo the CSL as well.

Wouldn't I need to compound and polish the rest of the paint to reinstall CSL? The car is a 2001 with super thin paint on the roof (which wasn't painted) and Im afraid of going through the clearcoat. The car is a garage queen so I don't expect too much stuff is stuck to it. I would certainly apply Iron-x and clay any areas needed.

A polish should remove CSL from my experience.

Again the starting over is my opinion because I am all about doing it "right" to get the best results.

You can absolutely just do a light decon and go over it with EXO if you want. I am just reminding everyone that you can't expect full durability and performance IMO.

From past use I don't find CSL or EXO to be the best available coatings. They are popular for certain groups and I understand why. But in my experience they are just average.

Which coating would you recommend for my daily driver? I am planning a full detail on the car ASAP. I was planning on Gyeon Mohs since I have used it before with good results. Lasting a long time is the most important factor. Gloss is a close second.

I have always had great durability from CQuartz UK 3.0. In the past I used it @ 2-layers as well as topped with CQuartz Ti02 which would now be replaced by CQuartz SiC.

I had my double application last 4+ years before I polished and redid the application with something new.

For history CSL + EXO barley lasted 2 years for me.

Always liked CSL topped with Gyeon CanCoat; CanCoat made up for the gloss & water behavior that CSL was missing and was more durable than EXO.
