Applying thin products, like VM, by PC

I'm sure this has been covered before but I'm just not coming up with the right search keywords. I love VM but seem to use far too much when applying by PC - i.e. ~4oz for a BMW 3 series sized car (paint, windows and trim). I've managed to find several posts saying that only around 0.5oz is...

Where do SFX polishes fit on the abrasive scale?

Hi All, I'm really interested in Sonus' SFX range of polishes and pads. However, I'm wondering where the polishes fit on the abrasive scale list. My reference points would be Megs #83, #80 and #82/#9 which I use and understand. My feeling is that SFX-1 is more aggressive than #83. Not...

    Wetsanding advice

Hi, My mother-in-law is going on holiday for a week and I've told her I'll detail her car while she is away. The bonnet (hood) of her car had some rust spots which she has treated and then painted over with touch-up paint - well lathered would be a more accurate description. I'm...

    #20 vs the rest

Hi All, I've done some searching but I'm not really coming up with any answers. I'd just like to know how Megs #20 compares against the other popular sealants out there i.e poorboys, klasse etc. I guess I'm most interested in it's look (wetness) and durability. I'd primarily be using it on...

Washing NXT out of a PC pad

Detailed my wife's car this weekend. Used #80 topped with NXT. The NXT was applied with a PC using one of Megs polishing pads. During application the pad seemed to suck up alot of the NXT. When I came to washing the pad I was there for what seemed like half and hour rinsing it in warm soapy...

Megs 80 series on a solid coat?

I have been using Megs consumer range but I've just bought a PC so now I'm looking at Megs pro range. My car has black solid coat paintwork (2002 Saab 9-3). There are swirls which are noticable close-up in direct sunlight - I have applied ScratchX by hand and it did a fair job in reducing them...

Megs equivilent of 3M Perfect-It Rubbing Compound?

Hi All, Can anyone tell me if Megs do a product that is equivilent to 3M's Perfect-It Rubbing Compound? I'm looking at having a go at some colour-sanding and it is easier for me to get hold of Megs products rather than 3M. My method of application would be by hand and my car has a solid...

    UK equivalent of Rubbing Alcohol

Hi, Can anyone tell me what the UK equivalent of Rubbing Alcohol is? I thought it may be Methylated Spirit but I'm not sure. Cheers, Phil

Detergents - how bad are they?

Hi All, By detergents I mean the stuff we'd use to wash our dishes i.e. Dawn, or Fairy over here in the UK. What I'm wondering is what sort of damage they would do. I'm aware they can break down rubber window seals but is there anything else? I was thinking of using it once every 6 months...
