I remember there being a high end headlight UV protection system. It involves the use of a spray gun, but I don`t remember too much else about it. Anybody else know what I`m talking about?

In the 80s, Mercedes used "padded" dashboards which were some kind of yellow foam covered in what seems to be a thin layer of plastic. Over time, that top layer dries out and shrinks, causing it to crack and then revealing the yellow foam below. Is there anything that can be applied to combat this?
