    Typical Expense Breakdown

I would like to share some of my 2009 expense reports. Mainly for the aspiring entrepreneurs who would like to start a detail business. This is for a home based mobile operation. What I am going to list is the expense category and the percentage it makes up of total expenses. Obviously the...

    Facebook and Twitter

How many are using Facebook and Twitter to market? I have accounts set up in both. Facebook because so many people are on it, and you can post pictures. Twitter, mostly to send out special discount coupons. I think both have good potential, and they are free.

    Business mileage deduction increase

I just read that the IRS has increased the business mileage deduction for the last six months of 2008. Starting July 1st the deduction will be 58.5 cents per mile, up from 50.5 cents per mile. This is good news for those of us who use this type of deduction for tax purposes. BTW, what method...

    Flex and 'Forced Rotation'

Given the recent interest in the Flex polisher, I have been thinking about the concept of 'forced rotation'. Can someone define exactly what forced rotation is? I think I have a pretty good idea of what it is, but am curious as to what others think it is. Since the Flex is currently the 'in'...

    Lucky Me!

This is a brand new BMW M6 that I will be maintaining on a bi-weekly basis. It stays clean, so I just use ONR to wash and for the wheels and tires. If it gets dirty, I will use the pressure washer to rinse and for the wheels and tires. I applied a coat of OCW on the last wash. No need to...

    Another Cyclo Down

I am really mad. For the second time, a Cyclo has broke on me. It happened just like the last time; right in the middle of a detail. Luckily, I had my Metabo to finish polishing the car. It seems to be the exact same issue as my old Cyclo, except this one is about a year old compared to 3-4...

    Love this color

Detailed my little sister's Acura RSX type S today. I really like this color. I polished with Hi-Temp's Light Cut via the Metabo and black Pro waffle pad. I sealed with Optimum. Tires got One Grand's ERV Dressing. Sorry I did not take any befores. Paint really was not that bad.

    Use caution with cords

I was polishing the other day with my Metabo. I lost concentration for just a moment. The cord some how got caught up in the drive and ripped right in two. I am lucky I did not shock my self. Luckily, I had a Milwaukee rotary for back up, and was able to finish the job. I was able to get a...

10 Good Reasons to have Your Car Professionally Detailed

I have the opportunity to write an article for a local newspaper. The editor thinks the article should be structured around "10 Good Reasons to Have Your Car Professionally Detailed". Does anyone have any suggestions? My goal is to educate the general public about detailing, and the benefits...

    Neglected wheel/tire clean up

I am working on a neglected 1992 Lincoln Town Car. The wheels had who knows how many years of brake dust build up. The tires were just as bad. Anyways, I used TOL's Wheel Wash, 0000 steel wool, an SM Arnold Spoke brush, electric pressure washer, and a lot of elbow grease and time. For the...

    Compounding Haze and Buffer Swirls

My wife's cousin just had his Beretta repainted the factory white. He paid a painter $700 bucks or so to paint it on the side. It is a decent paint job with very little orange peel, but some fish eyes and other defects. The buffer swirls and compounding haze was horrible though. I told him I...

    Optimum Compound as an LSP.

I detailed this white Pontiac Firebird. It had pretty heavy car wash scratches all over the paint that you really could only see in the direct sunlight. I had a feeling that Optimum Polish would not be agressive enough to remove these scratches. I decided to use Optimum Compound as my one and...

    Really like this color

I detailed this RSX today. Not sure what the color is, but I really like it. The paint was in very good shape already. I clayed, polished with OCP via Cyclo and green pads, and waxed with OCW. I was real happy with the results. Here are some afters shots.
