What Is Wrong!!!!!!

I just bought a PC 7424, a pad set from Megs., some SSR2.5, and SSR1. I went out and started w/ the SSR2.5 on my hood. I noticed that even after it starts to dust off, it leaves horrible streaks. I tried about 3 applications. Back and forth, up and down, in a slow moving pattern and still I get STREAKS!!!! I can't figure out what is wrong and I'm pretty upset that I just blew $200 on this stuff. Any help is appreciated
 
Patience... You didn't 'blow' anything. There is a learning curve that you are going through. Wait till after you have learned how to use the tool before you decide that you blew your money on it.

When do you get the streaks? Is this when you are trying to buff it off or why you are applying it?

It's when I'm trying to buff the polish off, this happened to me before when I tried Zymol polish by hand, it just doesn't apply well to my paint, any suggestions to make it go on smoother
 
Streaks are common when you are either not spreading the product out enough, using dirty (meaning full of other product) towels to buff it off with, or trying to buff it off when the surface is too warm or if it is very humid outside. Are any of these conditions things that you may be encountering? With a PC it is possible to really get the product spread thin. It is common for new users of the machine to not spread it out far enough, thus causing streaks.

Yeah, it's really humid out tonight and was today, anyplace where I can find a tutorial for this machine?
 
Funny you should ask that. CLICK HERE There is just such a guide. :) I haven't bothered to write on on OCDetails.com because the Autopia one is already written better than anything I could have come up with.

Hey thanks man, you've been a big help. One more thing, when I was polishing w/ SSR 2.5, I was using a yellow pad from Megs. Upon buffing dry w/ a white microfiber, there was yellow residue all over the towel. This is a problem, because my car is yellow. Is it normal to have a little paint residue on the towel when using 2.5 or is this just residue from the pad?
 
Wow! Autopia is a Godsend. I learned everything there is to know about the PC polisher. Now I have every other subject to read about. Thank you so much for the link Jngrbrdman.

This means your car is single stage yellow most likely. The pad does not leave residue. What car do you have?

PS - Sometimes polishes streak or do not remove 100% for me either, I just wipe them off the best I can and the final wax/sealant stage takes care of the rest.
 
if your getting streaks you might be using too much ssr .... or not letting it haze?

I don't have 2.5 but 2 and 1 seem to dissapear in a minute and wipe off no sweat.

My car is an Acura Integra Type R. When I use 2.5, major paint comes off, w/ SSR1, it's not so apparent. Is it bad for me to be using these products on single stage paint, oh and what the hell is SS paint by the way. Thx
 
Type R, eh? Nice. I've got a GSR sedan myself. Single stage paint is one where there is no clear on it from what I understand. I don't think that the Type R would only have single stage paint. Its something that older cars have. Then again, I could be wrong. All I know is that if you are seeing paint coming off your car and onto the pad, you are either burning your paint off or you have oxidation that is coming off.
 
My 1998 Integra GSR (milano red) is single stage. You just treat it the same as a clear coated paint basically.

If the paint looks ok after polishing, then I doubt you are burning through the paint. I freaked too the first time I saw red on my pads...
 
Sometimes streaking is caused because the oxidation on the paint hasn't been removed completely.
This happens more on single stage paints. I assume your is single stage because you are wiping off yellow from your car. I am a big SSR fan but have found that Meguiars DACP removes the oxidation a little better, because of it is also a cleaner ... then follow up with SSR 2 or 1.
Most of todays products are perfectly safe for single stage paint.

I'm new to the world of detailing, so I'm wary about providing advice on something like the PC 7424. However, I agree with Jngrb....there's a learning curve and it also matters the condition of the car. If you work on a 10-year old Toyota that's rarely been maintained, like I did, the improvement with the PC is going to be so dramatic you won't notice little imperfections from the machine, your movement with the PC, or the compound.

However, work on a newer vehicle -- especially an upscale model -- and little imperfections stand out.

I am using the PC 7424 only on vehicles in my family that are 3+ years old or more. I figure the cars that are 1 or 2 years old will be brought back enough by the multiple-layering I do by hand.

First don't work at night, especially when humid...products don't fully dry and thus become streaky...no matter what the product.

Second..stick with polishing pads on a single stage paint as cutting pads may cut too much until you fully understand how and when to use them.

Third..most single stage paints will not need sometyhing as aggressive as SSR2.5 for deoxidizing or scratch removal...move down to SSR2 or SSR1.

Fourth...good luck and call me if you have any other questions:)
 
Man, this is bad news because its nearly always humid where I live (Guam, on the beach). Guess I'll have to wait for windy days. Any other suggestions from humidity fighters would be appreciated.
