Tried Griots Garage Products

I recently recevied the Griots Garage car wash starter kit as a gift and had an oppertnity to try it out this weekend. I really like the car wash and the wheel cleaner (This stuff smells great. I almost thought I could drink it it smelled so good). Both did a great job and were as advertised. I then tried the Best of Show wax and was impressed, but it seemed a little hard to remove. Unfortunately it rained about two hours after I waxed it, so I will get to try the Speed Shine on it tonight. I'll let you know what I think.

All his products are really good and expensive. He has the best customer service and stands behind his products.I dont like his carnuba and his Best in Show Wax is a PITA to remove.A real stand up company

How did you apply/remove the Best in Show wax? I am curious about this product and would like to know how you used it. Thanks!!

I have used Griot's products for years and liked them quite a bit. But Richard Griot sold the company a few years back and I'm not sure who is directing product development. In the past I thought their CS was just about the best, but the last time I called the CS rep knew virtually nothing and only read canned answers from cards. Don't know if she was new or not, but I was a little dissapointed.

The only product I use regularly anymore is the Leather Care and Leather Rejuvenator. Excellent, excellent products.

They do have some of the coolest car realted stuff I have ever seen.

I applied the wax with my PC in very thin layers, let dry to haze, then wiped off with a mircofiber. I do give them credit for having bottles that are easily opened and closed with one hand. Really nice when you don't have to fumble around with bottles, etc.

Thanks for the info. I may just stay with what I have seeing as this was so hard to remove. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. :)

Great company but the waxes suck IMHO. I like a lot of his detailing tools and I still order from the catalog.

Anybody know who he sold the company to?

I liked their undercarraige spray although a bit pricey. It lasts for weeks, and can be used for tires as well. Im pretty sure I found the same thing under a different name for 3x less, same color and scent.

I had the same problem with Best of Show, inject a smaller amount of wax directly into your red pad if you are using his pads. Work the wax in more. If you are still having problems spray a light mist of Speed Shine that should help. B.O.S. also doesn't like to be applied in direct sun. Concerning Richard selling the business I don't believe he has. I was at a class there 2 weeks ago and I walked past his office with his name on the door. I did hear that they are moving their whse. to Indiana for faster shipping to the East Coast. R&D and CS will stay in Tacoma. Also if you get a CS rep who doesn't know what the're doing ask for Ben he is probably the best there!

I did not think they sold either.

Anyway, the BOS wax is very nice but I also had a hard time getting that stuff off. I stopped using Griot's a while ago because their prices on products and shipping was too high.

I do not like any wax that I have to spay a liquid on it to get it off.In my opinion most if not all waxes should be easy on or easy off.COLLINATE is a PITA to remove(MDE) o.k. I could live with that but to start using a liquid detail to get off I just hate BUT THAT IS JUST ME ...............LOVE THAT SOUVERN

I agree with Alan on this one. Souveran is easy to apply as is Pinnacle's less expensive Paste Glaz (great on white, gold and silver in my experience). With S100 selling for $15 at the local Harley dealer I just feel it's hard to do better and any difficult application may be a sign of outdated wax technology. To be fair, Collinite may trade difficult removal for extra durability.

I get their catalogs every once in a while. I like a lot of the stuff they sell, but from what I've read, you can often find the stuff cheaper elsewhere online. There wax products get good reviews and they have a nice return policy. Too bad the prices weren't a little closer to Earth.

They are overpriced. Period! They try to make you think they have cornered the market on quality stuff, like you are buying from a place that supplies the wealthy and that their stuff is in some way superior to others and it's just not true. Their merchandise is no better than Harbor Freight or Sears or Poorboys. They just charge more for it than you'd have to pay anywhere else. It's a scam.

Thats not true, Richard Griot still owns his company. However he did take his VP , Mark Green on as a partner a few years back.

I use Griot's Polishes and Wheel cleaners. I haven't tried the wax though. I disagree 100% with Jims about Griot's being "a scam."

Yes they are a bit expensive but take a closer look at their business model. I get a catalog almost every month. They must mail out over 10 - 20 thousand catalogs every month. Each catalog costs at least a dollar or two to print and mail. Do the math... 10 - 20K spent almost every month on their direct mail alone. How do you pay for this? With more profit margins. How do you make more profit margins? Charge more money.

As a consumer, I usually don't like paying for a company to send out product catalogs, I'd rather them use an internet site that would probably cost much less to operate. Having a paper catalog in my hand does not enhance my shopping experience. JMO

I agree. Especially when the costs , the ease of use, and the durability of said product are matched by other companies at a smaller cost. I don't know a whole lot about Griot's products, but with the advent of ecommerce, maybe they should look at their marketing efforts and make some money-saving changes. I would imagine passing on savings to the consumer would gain much more customer respect than a monthly catalog.

I've used Griot polish and waxes before. Their pricing is not really that bad. Polishes are $13 and their Best of Show wax is $20. Not too far from Poorboy's pricing. Shipping costs may be another matter.
