but I try not to compete with distributors except for items they do not carry...ie mf, commercial accounts, bulk supplies, etc...

I have spoke to TOL in the past about Detail City sponsorship. While she did express interest while talking on the phone she never replied to two follow up emails that I sent that included detailed sponsorship information so I soon realized the answer was "not interested".

Being a competitor or not is not my concern, I look for ways to be both cooperative and competitive.
