How to prep suspension/wheel wells/frame for paint

Im disassembling my IFS suspension, replacing all the bushings/tie rod ends/ball joints etc, and while i have everything apart im going to paint my control arms and all the other little misc. stuff on the front suspension.

I also want to get all the gunk out of the wheel wells, and off the frame and rear axle.

The best plan i can come up with is:
Soak all the front suspension parts i can in simple green, or maybe laquer/paint thinner in a large tub. Then sand everything, then paint.
For the wheel wells, frame, and axle im planning on hosing everything down with simple green, scraping off all the gunk and grime, then sanding and painting.

Anybody have any better ideas or suggestions?

I got a suggestion you might want to consult with some of the others here before you would do this procedure that im going to mention. When i was driving big trucks for a living i would take aluminum brightener diluted with water and spray the chassie down and let it sit for about 30 secs. or so then take a pressure washer and rinse of. If the chassie is real dirty then a second application may be needed. But over all when your done all chassie and suspension will shine like new money. Hope this helps out. P.S. Be real careful when using this aluminum brightner "aka ACID" Not to get it in your eyes or on your skin!!!!!

I would reverse this step....scrape off all the gunk THEN hose w/Simple Green, scrub and repeat if needed. Just make sure you get all the loose factory *paint* off the suspension pieces, or the new paint will just fall off with the factory junk.

If you can find some (I get mine at the dollar store), Mean Green is one NASTY degreaser...$5 per gallon, and used full strength (or even 50/50), it will strip nearly any grease/oil/tar that's on a surface....needless to say, it doesn't do wax or sealants any good either
