Poorboy's Detailing Day Reflections

Can you put some names to the faces in the above pictures?
I will take the first try at associating names with faces. Someone jump in and correct me if I make a mistake.

Roadchief's first large pic (same as his last small pic) - From left to right: Typhoon, Poorboy, Deanski, and Bob the dealership's manager.

red Integra pic - GSRStilez and his girlfriend

black Mustang pic - GSRStilez and Dalton?

white conversion van pic - Roadchief's daughter

red SC430 pic - JaCkaL829? on the far left

black 350Z pic - From left to right: Raven, TheSopranos16, and DetailPrincess

Please extend our gratitude to both your friend the manager of the dealership and the owner. Without the two, we would not have had the opportunity to all get togeather for a fun day!

I second that!!!

The Freddy Kruger induced Range Rover was the shocker! It was quietly being done in the background without to much fan fare, but after time and I went over, I was sure it was a different Rover and NOT the same one! What an improvement!

I cannot believe I had no idea what was going on over there

Dalton, now how does the car look? You too busted your hump!

Could not be happier with the end result. After all of this time being afraid to work with an abrasive product, SSR 2.5 could not be easier to work with and the result astounded me. I took my time and really worked it thanks to advise from Marj. I would have worked it 1/2 as much as she suggested and I am glad we spoke about it.

Thanks again for the pad Dino! Very generous of you!

Let's do this again and next time, I'm going to coordinate with a tent company to provide enough coverage so we're all out of the direct sun. Or, I'll have to bring all the EZ-UPS I have, but figure it would be less of a PITA if I had a rental co do it.

I have to get an EZ up. I am sun burnt!!!!

Marj, did you get to work the Rotary at all?
No, I was too busy to work with any rotaries. However, Natty and ScottP were nice enough to bring their Porter Cable and Makita rotaries for me to get a feel for the weight, balance, and comfort in my hands. Both were about the same size with similarly shaped grab handles, but the Makita was noticeably lighter. When working on horizontal surfaces a little more weight might be desireable, but on vertical surfaces it might be more fatiguing. Both machines had speed controls located right below your thumb rest area. One control rolled left and right, and the other rolled forward and backward. I had no preference for one control knob over the other. Didn't get a chance to see the DeWalt or Milwaukee models, but their specs indicate that they too would be much heavier than the Makita. If I take the plunge, it will be for the Makita.

I had a chance to compare some rotary pads designs too. I liked the shape of the Edge Classic pads, and ScottP had some nifty models that I had never heard of before. Interesting!

Sounds like it was just too much fun to miss. If you guys do one again next year, even clear up there in NY, I very well just might show up. Sorry I couldn't make it. What a great thing it sounds like it was for one and all. Way to go everyone! :)

I'll tell you, I'm more happy that I did my secret wax test of Souveran vs Natty's. This will save mucho $$$. very tough to distinguish which was Souveran and which was Natty. Only Marj could get it right and hit the nail on the head as to why one was the other.
Deanski - Before you start over with all PB products, would you mind doing an experiment for me? On the left front fender of your SC430, would you apply a layer of Natty's on top of a layer of Souveran? TQB mentioned that layering Natty's and Trade Secret produced an interesting effect. I was wondering if the same could be said for layering Natty's and Souveran. :dunno

My pleasure!!! Since you seem to have the sharpest eye, I'll do that for you if you choose to evaluate it. Not much of a drive for me....

Intresting thought... Natty's over/on top of Souveran... Remember, it has EX-P under the new Natty's now.

Steve better get some boxes ready for me I'm going to order several items that I missed out purchasing that day.

BTW, What did you day you use on the Beemer Leather? As you can see, having Ecru interior has it's downfalls. The biggest is when the top is down, more road dust (very fine too) end up in the back seat area. I clean all the time with Woolite 6:1 as it works very well and it's cheap!

Thanks for all the info on products!

Regards,
Deanski

No problem Dino:)

I talked with the owner of the dealership and we've been invited back:D he loved the work everyone did on his '37 and Jeremy I'm waiting on those pictures....
Jeff I've had numerous requests for similar days, and will consider more for next year. What most people don't realize is the tremendous amount of preparation that went into this , especially all the countless and thankless hours Marj did :bow ....I hope this will lead to more distributors recognizing the interest that so many people have to EX-Periment with products they read about, but are a little gun shy to just get it. The friendliness of this group of people as I stated earlier was awesome. Just like DC, there was no bickering and lots of cooperation ...I had the axe ready in the van:lmfao ;) just in case:rofl

Tell Nattybumpo many thanks for hanging out with all of us!

Next time, I'll offer to get a local tent company to provide enough tents or EZ-UPS whichever will work for the site. This way, more of the cars can have coverage and not fight the hot finishes.

Although it DID prove a point on EX and EX-P and other products... YES YOU CAN USE IT IN THE SUN.

I'll do the Natty/Souveran test. the panel that was Souveran still is as I did not p/u the Natty's since I was being paged by you know who.. BTW, not many packages came home from Woodbury:-p DOn't need a second mortgage now...

Regards,
Deanski

Walking to McDonalds through the used car section of the dealership showed me that there are a lot of cars there that would be great detailing jobs themselves.

A great idea hit me,,,As a thanks to the dealership plus a blast to the detailing participants, how about dedicating some time (say 1hr or 2) and set up teams and have the dealership assign us cars to work on as a project.

Dealer gets to sell nicer looking cars, we have some great team building and the feeling that we gave something back to the dealership.

PB DAY

Dalton:

Thanks again for the pad Dino! Very generous of you!

No big deal and glad I could assist! If I had the company car, that would have been loaded with EZ-UPS, pads, more MF's, polishers (PC and rotary) and cables. My tech in the area was tired from a concert he went to on Friday at Jones Beach.

If there is anything that you have not tried, chances are I have it! With the exception of 1Z polishes that is... Let me know if there is a polish or QD or whatever you wish to try.

I sent two 8oz bottles of Menzerna PO106 and PO85RD to Bill D as he had to polish a Ceramiclear finish and those are the two that will work. Give it time and Steve will have one! It would have to be like SSR 3 on steriods!

I too really like the 2..5 polish! You can go straight to wax even if a rotary was used, so long as it had a polish pad on it. No haze, little dust.. can't beat that!

All in all, we really had a good day, good people and great products!

Marj really did a tremendous level of work from what I understand coordinating the event. Site prep, product prep etc!

Marj... WE ALL THANK YOU FOR YOUR HARD WORK THAT WENT ON BEHIND THE SCENE PRIOR TO THE DAY! WE OWE YOU!! :bow

For those that made it, if there is anything I can do or have that you want to test, let me know.

Maybe one day we can also have a detail day with all type/mfg of products.

Who had the Edge pads? Which ones were they? I also here Lake has some new ones for rotary coming out, or already released.

Steve... If your still missing pads I'll send you any I have (which is a lot of pads of all types), just tell me size and they are yours! Sorry to hear some got lost, but sure the guys will respond.

Gotta go guys... Have a good day!

Regards,
Deanski

Well, haven't polished the Mercedes yet, Hopefully will only need the lighter of the two polishes. TY again Deanski :bigups.

I spoke to Deanski before and after the PB event by phone. Sure sounded like a blast! In the meantime, I had one of my scrap fenders set up at home and tried out the Menzerna stuff.
