This is a close up pic of the Xterra Hump on the trunk.
I JUST finished Polishing it Race Glaze Polish.
I didn;t compund it because the trunk was painted about a month and a half ago..COMPLETELY at Nissan.
It looks great but when I saw the pic..I am wondering if the paint job SUCKS bad..and if this is indeed Orange Peel as I have heard it described before..
thanks..

yes that's what it is...
Ok now what???
Does the job suck.. You think they would RE-DO it???
Is that what you get at a dealership as far as quality...
It will never be as good as factory right??

THAT IS FACTORY !!

so feel good, without colorsanding, that's the probably the best it will ever get :)

:yeah

without spending thousands of dollars for many coats and many sandings between coats that is what a factory or decent repaint will look like...you can wet/dry sand it if you want, but if it is not a show vehicle then it's usually not worth the effort.:dunno

wow, i thought my mom's car had it bad...... that surface sorta reminds me of copper, but when you have gotten that far, where you can see the orange peel so clearly, i guess that means that youre doing a good job polishing her up :)

OK..that's fine for me.. If that's what factory looks- like thats fine.
I meant factory as when it comes from the plant. Dealership I considered as second best. You guys know what I mean?
It really looks bad in that original close up at 1260 pixel size...
But I would just hated having to go back and dealing with Nissan on having to re-do because it was done bad.. I'm kinda happy to hear it's 'normal'.
thanks guys..

Yep, that is orange peel alright. What really sucks is when you have a bumper and a whole side painted by a good shop and you have a nice smooth finish on one side and factory orange peel on another.

At one time I knew a guy that had one particular talent that made him very popular with the dealer repaint shops. He could match the factory orange peel after a repair was made. I have no idea how he did it and he wouldn't share the information with anyone.
He really thought it was funny that he was in demand because he could screw a good paint job up so it matched what came from the factory.

That would be in great demand. Around here...I just wish there was a quality paintshop. The only one thats decent would cost me $15-20k, and its the kind of paintjob Steve was describing above.

The fairly reputable shop that repainted my car after some front end body work insisted on repainting the whole car. Now I know why. I also have a pretty bad case of 'orange peel' but at least its uniform.
