How does this sound?

Thinking about using this routine this weekend:

clay
3M perfect-it II
poorboy pro-polish
SSR 2
SSR 1
AIOx3
UPPx3
S100x2 (if needed)

I need some input, can I improve this or does it look good?
This is on my black car with bad swirls.

I don't think there is a need to do the AIO 3 times, SSR1 doesn't have any fillers. I think you can leave the pro-polish out. Other than that it looks good. Three steps of polishing looks like a lot. I guess you could use 3M on problem areas then go straight to the SSR1. I have no experience with the 3M but I'm assuming it is stronger than SSR2. SSR2 to SSR1 everywhere else.

What are you doing by hand ?? by PC or by Rotary??
Eggroll has some good suggestions .,...if your using 3m, they recommend it with a Rotary and 3m pads...you may want to just use Poorboys stuff and see if you need something stronger after ..

I was going to do the 3M and Pro-Polish with a rotary, then the SSR2 and SSR1 either by rotary or PC. Probably the rest by hand.

The car is only a 2001, but it is black and has been neglected. The paint is in pretty rough shape w/ a lot of fine scratches and swirls--that is why I think I need the 3M. I hoped the Pro-Polish would bring out a nice shine since the paint is looking a little dull, and the the SSR would take out all the swirls.

I really want this car to look killer, time and work is really not an issue. I have been learning a lot from this forum, all input is appreciated.

Rich,

I just did a black car using the 3M line. Pictures can be found here: http://detailcity.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4570

I think you might be using 1 too many compounds. If the car has "fine" scratches, you can probably get away with just the SSR2 then SSR1.

Always start with the least aggressisve step, this will save you time and steps. I would go to an area that is really bad and start with ssr1 and step up if need be. I would then commence to do the the rest of the car starting at the step it took to clean up your test area.

I would then follow with AIO OR the Pro- Polish, since both are cleaners, seems like your just repeating a step.

As far as the UPP is concerned, you should wait 24 hrs between applications.

Hope this helps.

If it Floats, Rolls or Flyes, I can make it Shine!

Beofre I found this site and started using PB line up, I used 3M almost on all cars. I found on my black BMW that the 3M SWR for dark cars was about the best I've seen. Their polishes was also better for some reason.
